Ronan kept staring at the long lost ring, which was now laying in his hands. Why would Rave have it? Why would he keep something like this from him? He knew how important it was. And that it was an important clue in finding Zoe's murderer, who has been in hiding for so many years now. Rave wanted only justice for her as well, he even said it so determinedly multiple times. And why was he keeping it in such fancy way? Was he considering solving all of this a gift? It wouldn't be exactly a good gift to give him on their wedding, it would be the worst possible one if anything. He didn't know what to think.
(Except if.. no..)
He couldn't let himself think about it. He wouldn't let the thought that his future husband could be the cause of him becoming a widower cross his mind. He knew something was off, but this wasn't it. It couldn't be.
(How could I even let myself think like that.. he's the sweetest guy in the world.. there's no way he could ever do.. this.. There has to be a normal explanation for this.. maybe I should talk to someone else than him first, though..)
He shakenly got up from his knees and put the box with the ring in his pants' back pocket. The moment he made just one single step to the door, ready to leave the lounge, the heavy, dark wooden door slowly opened. The one holding it's handle was none other than Rave. As handsome as he was, each of his words were echoing in Ronan's mind to the point when he stopped perceiving them when his fiancé began speaking.
"Ronan? Is everything alright? You've been taking a little long, so your dad told me where you went." He looked into his lover's eyes with a sincere smile. "Glad to see you're okay." As joyful as he let himself be perceived, the one on the other side of the conversation kept silent. "Hey what's up? Neither of us is wearing a dress, we can see each other whenever we want," he chuckled nervously.
Ronan stayed quiet and just kept vacantly staring at him.
"Hey, what's wrong? If it helps you, we don't have to be afraid of anyone from our families ruining our big day anymore. Everyone's been having a lot of fun so far, even your dad came to talk to us. He's actually a pretty cool guy when he's not annoyed by my presence," he chuckled again, but then he saw Ronan's almost empty face and gave up on trying to lift the mood. "Ronan? What's the matter?" Worry flooded his eyes.
Ronan was looking into his eyes, unable to tear his sight away, panicking, trying to catch his breath and find the right words. Rave slowly ran up to him and carefully placed his left hand on Ronan's rosy cheek.
"You know we can talk if you wan-"
He didn't finish his sentence, because Ronan lightly, yet cleverly enough to manipulate it grabbed his arm and took his palm off of his face.
"Wha-? What did I do?"
Ronan hesitated at first, but then reached inside of his pants' back pocket and took out the box he's been hiding.
"Rave.. do you know what this is?" He opened it to let Rave see the diamond ring inside of it.
"Aww, you're so-" Rave's smile was gone as soon as it appeared, when he looked close at what he was showing him. The ring. The one thing that would always bring him down, even though that could also be said about himself.
(Wh- what?! Where did he..?!.. no.. NO..!.. no..)
