I feel it get colder, then it gets warmer, I blink my eyes open. I see Zack looking at me, and feel someone's hands on my lower back. " Hey, are you okay? " Zack asks, extreme fear in his voice. I widen my eyes waking up a bit, nodding my head at Zack.
" She was just asleep dude buzz off! " I see Ray push Zack back, and the feeling of hands on my back goes away. Zack gets up and pushes back, until their in a full blown fight.
" Stop you idiots! We're all waiting for answers, and fighting won't make it to any faster! " Layla pushes them apart and they both land on opposite sides of her. She helps them both up and brings them back to sit down.
I try to lean back on the seats behind me when, " Oh no you don't. " Ray puts his arm on my back before I can lean on the seats, " You can't go to sleep again, trust me we need you awake. " he whispers as he looks at both sides of him to see Zack, and Layla. He sits me up and fixes the jacket on my shoulders.
I grab the jacket and pull it closed as a heavy breeze blows by like earlier at the tree, " So has anyone found out what's going on yet? "
" No. " Layla says as she continues lean back and pop her gum. " Nothing. " I sigh, wishing there was at least some news, anything at all.
This is the group I end up with, my neighbor, my good friend, and the most annoying football player, and if course we're unsupervised. " What kind of maniac leaves this kind of group unsupervised?! " I accidentally blurt out my thoughts, and also my hands on my mouth so fast that my hands turned red.
" Kisha? What are you talking about? " Zack looks up from where he's sitting on the ground.
" Yeah! What is that supposed to mean. " Layla snaps back at me.
Ray just looks at me, almost as if he knows what I mean but doesn't want to say anything. " I mean you guys where just fighting, " I say pointing to Ray and Zack, " and you had to break them up. " I turn to Layla. " What kind of group is this to be left alone together? " I put my head down and ask. They shake their heads and look down all together, " We're not a group! " Layla feels the need to add. " I mean come on, this is no group, just some kids thrown together and left alone. "
I want to snarl back at her but don't even bother coming up with something to even say. Sitting there we all wait for the other to say something, anything at this point. " Hey, Kisha I think your phone buzzed. " Ray says pointing to the pocket with my phone in it. I give a small smile, nod my head then check my phone.
" Its another message from the principal. " I look up at them, mainly just Ray and Layla.
" Another? " Zack says.
" What's it say? " Layla and Ray race to say.
I take a second to open the message not even bothering to answer Zack's question. In shock I say to them, " A maintenance man was electrocuted and he cot on fire, and, " I pause for a moment trying not to cry, " died. " I put my head down and realize everyone else had to.
" Dear heavenly father, I ask you to take this man into your kingdom. Let him finely be free and forgive him of his sins. Take care of his family and keep them well, " she pauses for just a moment.
" May his going not burden others, may he have died peacefully and had suffered no pain. Lift him to your kingdom and keep him safe. " Zack added very quietly.
" Amen! " we said all together, lifting our heads up from the ground.
Layla comes over and gives me a hug, crying along with me. Zack and Ray do that thing guys do instead of crying, in morning of the man. I never told them the end of the message which had said, " he walked right into the school. I think he might have wanted to set things on fire, because everyone knows to stop, drop, and roll of you ever have fire on you. But he might have just been looking for help, we may never know. " I didn't think they would need to know that.
" Attention all students! If you didn't get the message, the reason we had fire was a maintenance man had cot on fire and walked into the school, he did end up ding because no one could get to him in time. " Mrs. Jessica announced over the intercom. " You all may go to the class you would be in right now and get ready to go. There is fifteen minutes until dismissal. "
We all stand up and start heading for the nearest door to the school and go inside. Good thing the door wasn't that far away, and we where inside in seconds. We all split up and when to get out stuff and head to our end of the day classes. Then we waited for dismissal. It as the longest fifteen minutes of my life, because I didn't feel like talking after what just happened and wasn't in the mood for reading a book about death. So I just sat and ignored anyone who tried to talk to me, even Layla.
