"Evelyn!"
The worried cry of Aragorn shook me back to reality. I grabbed the blade and shot up. Spinning around, I sheathed the blade in an extra sheath and looked up. Everyone was crowded together, looking down.

"Oh, no",I whispered to myself. I was suspecting the worst, so I told myself it might not be what I think it is... Or who it is. I dashed over to them and my fears were correct. There was Frodo, lying face down on the floor...motionless. "No",I whispered. Strider turned the the body of the poor Hobbit face up, and he took a deep breath. "Frodo!",I exclaimed very surprised. "I'm ok",he said, exasperated. A long sigh of relief made its way through the company. "That spear would have skewered a wild boar",Strider proclaimed. "Maybe there's more to this hobbit than meets the eye",Gandalf answered Aragorns questioning statement. All eyes where on Frodo and he revealed the precious sliver chain mail under his garments. "You are full of surprises master Baggins!",Gimli stated. But our moment of peaceful was not to last. The shrieks of orcs came to our attention. "Quickly! To the bridge of kazadum!",Gandalf announced. The company ran out of the room and into the Grand Halls. The screams where getting louder and orcs began to crawl out of every crack, every opening in the large space. Crawling out from the ground and even pouring from the ceiling. I was truly disgusted. Their grotesque forms surrounded us and I notched an arrow, ready to fire, but not sure which one to hit first. I looked down at Pippin and he gulped out of fear. He seemed to be staring at a particular big-eyed Orc, which hissed at him. "Pippin! Just don't look at them!",I hissed. I knew we didn't have a chance. But, I swore my allegiance, I shall... I will die knowing their alive if that's what it takes. But a rumble awoke and the orc's screeched out, seemingly in fear. Gimli laughed as the orc's began to flee back to their pits of hell, but looking at the light in front of me, apparently, hell itself has come to us. literally.
I slowly brought down my bow and stared at the approaching light. It growled and a tremor of fear ingulfed my senses. Boromir leaned over to Gandalf. "What is this new devilry?,"he asked lowly. Gandalf closed his eyes as to vision what the beast was. Not a moment passed before he lifted his head and gave us the unfortunate answer. "A Balrog. A demon of the ancient world,"he said gravely. "This foe is beyond any of you,"he stated turning around and giving me a quick glance. Then he said that single word I'd been waiting to hear. "Run!",he cried. And with that we took off, running away from the beast. Boromir ran ahead and we dashed down some stairs to another area with an unstable looking stair case and surrounding flames. Boromir ran to fast though, as we came through the entrance of a crumbling door way. When I came around the corner, I saw Boromir struggling to balance on the edge of a deteriorating set of stairs. "Boromir!,"I cried out. Running up behind, I wrapped my arms around him and pulled him back. He dropped the torch he was holding into the seemingly unending hole. That could have been Boromir's fate. I mentally sighed and then got back to my feet. But before I could... CLING! An orcish arrow glanced off the rock right next to my hand. PING! Then another. I looked up to see orc's shooting at us. I reached back for my bow but before I could, an arrow was launched in my direction. It would have hit me if it wasn't deflected by another arrow. I gasped and looked around. There was no one there. "Evelyn,"I heard Boromir say. I looked up to see his extended hand. I took it. The room was engulfed in flames and the remaining fellowship came running up behind. I counted the Hobbits, making sure that ALL the halflings were present. Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin... Pippin! I searched frantically for the little one then found him standing behind me. Letting out a relieved breath, Aragorn ran past, gesturing for us to follow. Running down another set of stairs, I saw a large gap in our approaching path. So, I jumped from the side of the stairs and to the steps below, therefore taking a lead in the front of the fellowship. Once we got to the gap, I jumped across and spun around. "Gandalf!",I gestured for the wizard to jump. Once he did, I caught him and lifted him steady. Next Boromir with Merry and Pippin. Sam next, then Gimli. Aragorn reached back to toss the dwarf but he swatted it away. "Nobody tosses a dwarf!,"Gimli held up his hands defensively. Swinging his arms, he jumped across barely making the edge. I reached across and grabbed Gimli's beard as to prevent his fall. "Not the beard!,"he cried. I almost smirked, almost, but just pulled him up. CRACK! The sound of stone breaking startled me back to the realization that Aragorn and Frodo were still up there. "Frodo!,"I yelped in panic. Fear was written all over his face, but the determination on Aragorns told me not to doubt. The stabilization of the stair case gave way when the Balrog sounded a roar and rocks from the ceiling fell away only to fall behind the section of the stairs where Frodo and Aragorn stood. After looking behind him, Aragorns head snapped back to me and nodded once telling me to be ready. I nodded back. "Lean forward!,"Aragorn instructed to Frodo. It took them a moment, but they finally got the stairs the lean the direction they wanted. "Come on!",I waved towards Frodo and Aragorn's falling forms. Contact came between the stone and I wrapped my arms as tight as I could around Frodo. I watched as the structure fell into the abyss and I released Frodo. Holding on to his shoulders I looked at him with a soft expression. "Are you alright?,"I asked softly. He only nodded in response. Good enough for me. "Quickly now!,"Gandalf cried. I grabbed Frodo's hand and pulled him along behind me. "Over the bridge!,"Gandalf yelled moving us in front of him. "Hurry!"
I pushed Frodo forward as to have him run ahead of me and glanced back behind my shoulder. Gandalf stood in front of a trail of flames which then grew in size and formed, what I assume, was the Balrog. It ducked down and let out a roar. That tremor came back and I ran even faster. I assumed Gandalf was behind me but I did not look back to check. I dashed across the bridge to where the rest of the fellowship had already taken lead, spun around, skidded to a stop on the fellowship side. That's when I noticed Gandalf instead did not come all the way across the bridge. Instead he kept his steady position on the other side and turned to face the beast. "You cannot pass!,"Gandalf yelled. "Gandalf!,"Frodo cried. The Balrog straightened itself up and burst into flames. Wings extended, it let out a large growl. "I am a servant to the secret fire, wielder of the flame of Anor. The dark fire will not avail you, flame of Udûn!" As Gandalf said this, he lifted up his staff as the Balrog struck down upon him with a sword of fire. A glowing white sphere surrounded Gandalf and deflected the sword. The beast roared in anger. "Go back to the shadow,"he growled. The Balrog stomped a large foot on the bridge and pulled a fiery whip from the air, snapping it as to strike fear. "You Shall Not Pass!,"Gandalf cried loudly. Raising his staff above him, he struck the bridge and a blinding sheet of white flame burst from the end of the staff. Gandalf then gave the beast a taunting glare and it took another step forward on the bridge. But as its burning foot lay pressure on the stone, the bridge collapsed beneath it and it fell amidst the dark pit that screamed death. I let out my pent-up breath, and was relieved that Gandalf was okay. He groaned as he looked away from the falling demon and turned to us. That was until the fiery whip came rushing up from the dark and wrapped around his ankle. "No!,"I screamed and, like instinct, I dashed over the bridge and to Gandalf, catching his hand before he could fall any further. "Gandalf!,"Frodo cried. "No!,"Boromir yelled before grabbing Frodo and pulling him back. "Evelyn! No!,"Aragorn called to me, but I just ignored him. I held onto Gandalf, but my grip was beginning to slip. "Gandalf, you have to pull up! I'm not strong enough to bring you up on my own!,"I instructed him. He just looked at me. "No, Evelyn,"he answered quietly. "What?,"I questioned as tears began to for in my eyes. "No, Evelyn. Not this time,"he repeated. Tears were streaming down my face. I gritted my teeth and shut my eyes, trying not to cry, but it wasn't working. I opened them again. "No, Gandalf! I'm not going to let you go!,"I responded firmly. He only gave me a small smile. "My dear Evelyn, you must trust me as you trust them. You must let me go,"he stated softly. I shook my head viciously. "No! Never!,"I tightened my grip but I could fell him slipping. "I will never let you go, Gandalf!,"I cried. "I know,"he answered. "Wha-?,"I started but he interrupted. He looked over to the fellowship. "Fly, you fools,"he said then he let go. He was too heavy and his hand slipped from my grasp. I gasped as his form fell farther from mine and sunk into the dark chasm. When he disappeared, I had yet the strength to move. My mind slowed and everything sounded hazy."Evelyn!,"Boromir cried. "No, go with the hobbits Boromir I'll get Evelyn!,"I heard Aragorn but his voice sounded muffled. "Gandalf,"I whispered. He was my guide, my leader, he was there, he was here... In my grasp. Yet he still fell. Why? "Aragorn!,"a new voice cried. "Legolas!,"Aragorn apparently sounded startled. "What are yo-,"Aragorn said. My hearing was starting to clear. "Not important! I'll get Evelyn! Go!,"This so called Legolas instructed. I coiled my hand back, clenching my hand into a fist and bringing it to my chest. I heard foot steps behind me and I dig my nails into the rock. I'm not leaving without Gandalf. I then repeated my thought to whoever was behind me. "I'm sorry, Evelyn, but we have to go,"they said. "No,"I growled. "Ev-"
"No!",I then screamed back at them. He sighed. "I didn't want it to come to this but...",he started. Strong arms wrapped around me with an iron grip and tried to stand me up. "No!",I screamed. He tried carrying me out. "Gandalf!",I screamed tears streaming down my face. He finally picked me up and carried me out as the whizzing of arrows surrounded us. I lost all my energy to fight, all my energy to do anything but cry. I grasped into this strangers shirt and sobbed endlessly. What is this feeling? Is this what loss feels like? It hurts! It hurts a lot. Finally making it out side the stranger sat me down on a rock a kneeled in front of me. I covered my face. I was ashamed of this weakness yet I must embrace it. After a moment or two I finally got myself to stop. Taking a deep breath, I moved my hands and wiped my eyes. I sighed deeply and gritted my teeth. Evelyn stop! What about Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin? I need to be strong for them! At least for now... I let out a breath and finally looked up to my savior. I was expecting to see Aragorn or Boromir, since they knew my names, but no! This was another elf! He had elvish clothing but a lot darker. Either really dark green or black. I saw a quiver of arrows on his back and a bow. He had long blond hair but darker eye brows. Blue-eyes that showed the past he's been. Fair he was indeed, even though all elves are supposed to be the fairest of all beings, there was something about him that made him different from the others. And... I liked that. "Legolas",Aragorn called. "Get them up." Legolas nodded in his direction then turned back to me. Standing up, he offered me his hand and I accepted. When I was back on my feet, all I could do was stare at him. He was taller than me and had strong hands but a gently touch. I stared at him curiously, then I noticed how long I might have been staring at him. My cheeks burnt a bright red and I took my hand from his and started brushing myself off. He gave me a small side smile then walked away. His figure was strong but lean and he had a sort of gracefulness in his step. "On your feet, Sam",he said pulling Sam to his feet. Voice was calm and gentle holding a friendly but intense tone to it. "Give them a moment for pity's sake!",Boromir argued. "By night fall these hills would be swarming with orc's!",Aragorn pointed out. "Make for the woods of Lothlórien.",Aragorn gestured to the woods behind him. Wait, is that what I think it is? I gasped lightly. Yes! It is! I mentally smiled. I'm coming, mother! I'm coming home!
