11. The teleporter
1. In a stone cobble courtyard behind Lucifer's palace, overlooking the vast lava sea and the rest of the city, Dan sat with his eyes closed, breathing deeply. When he sneezed, he could briefly visit the other realms of Heaven, Purgatoria and the human world. The sun had just set over the red horizon and the night was infantile as Dan continued his concentration. He had seen monks back in life doing this kind of thing, so he figured that he could at least have a go to see if they were right.
Lucifer was elsewhere in the palace, sorting the affairs of his study or raiding the fridge for a night of binge-watching, not to any concern of Dan. The wind blew gently across his face as Dan could feel a rumble of energy surge through him before he was warped out of reality. The instance he opened his eyes, he was high up in the fluffy cloud playland of Heaven, guarded by a golden gate and a stout guardsman named Destiny.
"holy shit, I did it, I actually did it" Dan wondered at his new achievement.
"great, who are you?" the guardsman said from behind a white desk.
"that doesn't matter, what's important is that I actually vanished and reappeared. Those monks really knew what they were doing" Dan thought.
"wait a minute. You're that Purgatorian the big man up here was talking about" Destiny recognized the visitor.
"Who, God?" Dan questioned.
"yeah, this high, old white guy look about him" Destiny laid out his master's dimensions.
"oh yeah. So where is everybody?" Dan looked around the empty cloudscape.
"this is Heaven. They had no set plan to the place, just this gate. All you have to do to get from A to B is think or say where you want to go. You're half angel, so you pass. Great job" Destiny explained the situation to Dan, who tried his hand.
"um...God?" Dan said before the clouds cleared, showing God on his throne speaking to the Arch-angel Elodie.
"oh, you must be Dan, the hybrid of Hell. how are things by boy?" a tall man in a white chair called out, just as Destiny had described.
"good, good. I just got this whole teleporting thing down, so I'm pretty hyped about that" Dan felt very humble before the king of the cosmos.
"Elodie, a pleasure" Elodie shook Dan's hand.
"I see you have met my most trusted disciple, Arch-angel Elodie of the Halo Council" God smiled.
"that sounds a lot like the Dark Council we've got in Hell" Dan realized.
"I didn't know the demons were capable of democracy or anything for that matter beyond treachery and violence" Orifiel, one of the head angels of the Halo Council spoke.
"Orifiel, these things change, and we must learn to adapt to these times." God corrected one of the angels
"you all know about Blood Moon Day, right?"
"I was wondering if I survived, could I come up here after I have repaid my debts in Hell?" Dan asked God and the angels.
"of course, my boy. If you live through the cataclysm, you will be welcomed into heaven with open arms abound" God held out his arms for the guarantee.
"thanks. I was expecting you and Satan to be a lot bigger" Dan used his fingers to scale up God.
"don't believe what the humans draw. Things are not what they seem" Elodie assured Dan.
