One more mile, you got this.

Your breathing was heavy but luckily the endorphins were kicking in as you rounded the last of 5 miles back to the Avenger compound.

Your feet throbbed and thighs ached but quiting wasn't an option. Not if you wanted to be a permanent member of the team and not just a lower level agent.

You pushed on, sweat dripping from your brow. The sun was coming up and you would make it back just in time for breakfast.

Your feet came to a halt as you approach the last leg of distance. You see Sargent Bucky Barnes rounding the other side, coming off of his known 10 mile morning run.

His dark hair flowed and sweat glistened across his body. His arms pumped pure muscles and his leg looked like they could crush watermelon.

Okay, you admit, he's attractive

Okay, you admit, he's attractive. But he's also an asshole.

You were still pissed that he kicked you out of training group yesterday, which you had to make up for today.

He always found something to be pissed about with you: talking too much, being late was the usual but, yesterday it was being a wise ass.

Not my fault he doesn't understand the references of the 21st century.

Determined not to let Bucky break your spirit, you push your feet off and take off with all you had.

You see that he's heading toward the door and pump your arms harder.

Picking up pace, you sprint toward the door just before he reaches it.

"Beat you!" You yell breathlessly.

His blue eyes glared at you. "I didn't know I was in a race (y/n)."

"Well you were and you lost," you gloat opening the door.

"I don't lose," he said sternly. No shimmer in his eyes. "You cheated. If I had known you wanted a competition you would have lost." He informed.

"Don't be a sore loser Barnes. Aren't you the one who said always be prepared." You retaliate turning away from him heading toward the elevators.

As the elevator doors open, you gasp as a hand swiftly spun you around and pinned you inside the elevator. Bucky had you captive and leaned in, "I did say that," he whispered over your thumping heart. "I also said never turn your back on an enemy."
