Chapter Eighteen - Wide Awake

Pain. But pleasant pain. He opened his eyes and let his vision adjust to his surroundings. It was black. Nighttime. He turned his head to the sound of a ticking clock, and saw that it was nearly 5 am. Memories came flushing through his system and he took in a breath, pain greeting him once again.

He felt a warm figure next to him, and he looked down to see Asa snuggled up next to him, shivering.

A smile spread across his face and he lifted her up with the little strength he had and moved her on his chest, covering the both of them with the cover. He watched her shift in her sleep, mumbling something, and then a faint smile came across her face. In that moment he realized that he would have been hit by a million trucks, if it meant to be by her side. She made him whole. He place a kiss on her forehead and sighed, his pain subsiding for the moment. 

He rubbed small circles on her back, loving the soft feel of her skin, it was soothing to him. The two stayed in this position for a while, and soon sunlight began to stream in from the clear windows, slowly creeping against the walls.

He glanced back at the clock and it now read 7:03 am, and Asa began to stir in his arms, her eyes fluttering open. "Princess." Is all he said, and she shot immediately up in his lap, in shock and surprise. 

"J-Jared.. oh my god I'm so sorry." She said and she hugged him, like if she where to let go he would leave again. 

"You didn't do anything baby." Jared spoke, hoarse, and an unpleasant pain danced along his back as she sat up again, siting just below his stomach with her legs on either sides of him. "Don't you think it's a bit too early for that?" He joked, and she looked down, blush creeping to her face as she slid off him quickly, standing at the side of the bed.

"I-I didn't mean.. I'm so sorry.. do you want me to go get the nurse?" She fumbled with her words, clearly excited that he was awake but now embarrassed that the first thing she did was straddle him.

"No baby, lay with me." He said, patting the bed and she did so, curling up next to him. For a moment she laid in his arms, and he began to hear her sniffles.

"Are you crying kitten?" He asked, and she looked up at him with tears in her eyes. "I missed you so much. I'm so so sorry that I made you get crashed and I wish it was me. I was so scared.." She broke down and began to sob, covering her face with her hands.

Her words stabbed at his heart, and all he wanted to do was make her feel better. He couldn't stand seeing her cry. "Aww baby don't cry.. shh. It's okay baby. It's not your fault." He cooed, pulling her close to him and he let her cry on his chest.

"I-I'm moving back to Canada Jared. I can't hurt you if I'm in Canada." She whimpered out, and he furrowed his eyebrows. 

"Asa, baby, look at me." He ordered, and she sat up a little, looking into his stern eyes. "You are not moving anywhere. You did not hurt me. Please don't move back to Canada. When I get out, we are going to my place, and we are going to live together, you and me. I want you by my side. Please don't go baby. Will you stay for me?" He said, and she sniffled, wiping her nose with her sleeve.

"I-I don't want you to get hurt..." She trailed off, and he pulled her in for a kiss, a long, affectionate, and much needed kiss. Time stopped around them, and it was only the two of them. He pulled away, cupping her face, and he stared into her pretty doe eyes. 

"You can't hurt me Asa... I-I love you." He whispered, and her heartbeat became erratic. "I love you too." She whispered back, and he kissed her once again, and she moved back on top of him. The emptiness he had once felt was long gone, and he felt as if he had won the lottery. And the prize was a lifetime of joy and happiness.

Asa felt like angel's had began to sing around them, leaving her in a state of bliss and ecstasy. It felt unreal to her. Fireworks had gone off in her head. This man loved her.

"Um.." They heard, and they turned their heads to the door where the nurse stood with a clipboard in her hand. "You're awake Mr. D'Amore. I-I'll go inform the doctor.." She awkwardly said and shut the door, leaving them alone.

Asa burst out into giggles, making Jared chuckle as well as she kissed him once more, getting off the bed.

"Leave it to you to give the poor nurse a show." She mused, and Jared smirked. "Says the one straddling the hurt man." He retorted and she blushed, but laughed none the less. "I'm gonna talk with them to see when you get out. Are you hungry? Or thirsty? Do you need anything? Are you cold? O-or do you want me to close the blinds? I can-" "Baby." He stopped her, and she ceased her ranting, looking at him.

"I'm fine. Go eat breakfast first." He said, and she nodded, gathering a few things and she then left the room. Leave it to him to be thinking about her before him. He smiled to his self, sitting back and looking at the ceiling.

"I'm gonna marry her someday."  He thought, then his smiled immediately dropped. Marry. Shelia. His parents. Speaking of which...

His parents, right along with Shelia came into the room, and his mother exclaimed in joy, giving him the biggest hug.

"Oh my poor baby! You're awake! How are you feeling?" She said, taking his hand, and he gave her a smile. "I'm fine ma." He said and she began to fan her eyes as if that would prevent her from crying. "Dad. Shelia." Jared said, looking past his mother and he sat up, stretching his legs. Shelia had a large band aid on the side of her face, which he wanted to question but he didn't care.

"Jared. I want you to know what I have no sympathy for you. I told you not to go and chase that maid girl. She's a maid! What does she have that Shelia doesn't?" His father began to rant, and Jared refrained himself from rolling his eyes.

"Did you end the contract?" He asked, looking him dead in the eye.

"Well.. n-no.." 

"Do not say another word until you do so. I do not want to see you, hear you, or even be thinking about you. I don't understand why you care so much on who I'm with." Jared said, not in the mood to be arguing. He just woke up, and he needed to take a piss.

"Well the publicity son.." His mom began, and he shot her a look.

Asa walked in with a nurse and a tray of food, and her face fell at the sight of them. "O-oh I can leave.." She said, stopping in her tracks as they all gave her the dirtiest looks they could muster. 

"Stay Asa. Nurse." Jared said, and the Nurse came over and began to check his vitals among other things.

"Oh why do I have a band aid on my face you ask?" Shelia began, "Nobody-" "Because she slapped me! She abused me and you rather her over me? She's nothing!" Shelia began to yell and Asa looked away, sitting down the tray.

"Nurse could you get security to get her off the premises for me? Thanks doll." He said and the woman left, returning with two large men who began to usher them out. Shelia of course caused  a scene, until she left the room and Asa shuddered in horror. She was thankful she wasn't like that. "Okay. Well we are gonna have you here for a couple of more days, so you can regain your strength and then you can go back home. I advise you stay away from things that can add to any type of stress, try to keep your stress levels low." The nurse spoke, eyeing the door, and Jared nodded, Asa snorting beside him.

"Will do. Thanks." He said, and she bowed her head, leaving the room as well. 

"Babygirl." He said, and Asa looked over at him as she began to eat her apple slices. "A package should have come in the mail at my house, I need you to go to the club and give it to someone. Can you do that for me?" He spoke, and she nodded, smiling at him.

"You are too cute." He mumbles as she grinned, swallowing her food and she tossed another slice into her mouth, crunching away.
