Jackie forgot to set her alarm.

Already being late, Jackie brushed her teeth, forgetting to eat breakfast.  She got dressed as fast as possible, brushing her long hair and putting it into a ponytail.  She placed her hat on her head and put her ponytail through the hole.  She put her glove on as she jogged down her stairs and out the front door without even saying goodbye to her parents.  At the same time, the boy she met yesterday, Scotty, was also leaving his house, but he seemed way calmer than she did.

"Hey, good morning." Scotty smiled, holding a hat and a baseball glove.  Jackie furrowed her eyebrows when she spotted the glove, not knowing that the kid was athletic in any way.

"Hi, I didn't know you play baseball." Jackie slowed her pace when she met Scotty halfway on the sidewalk.  She thought it would be a great idea to bring Scotty along with her, since he played baseball, he'd fit in right away.

"Oh, well, I mean, I'm not really-"

"I'm already late anyway, you should come with me.  I'm meeting my friends at the sandlot and we're gonna play some baseball." Jackie cut him off, frantically checking her watch to check the time.  Watches were a new thing that she was lucky enough to receive for her birthday from her dad.

"Are you sure you want me to come?  I don't want to intrude on anything." Scotty placed his long hat on his head, seeming nervous.  Jackie knew he'd get judged for wearing that hat, but didn't say anything since it would probably make him feel bad.

"Nonsense, the more the merrier.  Come on." Jackie grabbed his wrist and pulled him along with her as they ran to the sandlot.  Jackie was excited to introduce everyone to Scotty, he seemed like a sweet kid and would fit in fine.  What Jackie didn't know was that the boy felt like throwing up from nerves.  "They seem to already be in a game, we'll join in on the next one," Jackie said.

She finally let go of Scotty's wrist, staying next to the fence to not be in anyone's way.  She looked over to Scotty to see him fascinated, watching the boys in front of him play in awe.  She thought it was a little odd since it wasn't that nice of a field.  She pulled him over to where she was so he didn't interrupt their game.  He wasn't looking in her direction when she was leading him to the fence, causing a long branch of leaves to smack him in the face.

Coincidently, it was Benny's turn to bat.  He didn't even let Kenny pitch, he would throw the ball in the air himself.  He was the only one that was allowed to do that.  Jackie and Scotty were both admiring Benny, but for two totally different reasons.

"You guys play here every day?" Scotty asked from next to her, fiddling with his glove that his grandma gave him when he was six for his birthday.

"Yup, except we don't really have rules.  We don't ever keep score, we never choose sides, we never really stop playing the same game.  As a matter of fact, we could just join in right now." Jackie realized, beginning to walk onto the field, but got pulled back by Scotty.
