✧・゚: *✧・゚:* Chapter Twelve *:・゚✧*:・゚✧
The treehouse was filled with gloomy faces as everyone thought of a plan to somehow get the ball back without dying. No one had any bright ideas, not even Jackie, who usually knew what to do in pressured situations. She would have just given up, but Scotty was one of her new best friends, not to mention, her neighbor. She had to find a way to help him out, even if it was dangerous. It was going to be just about impossible to retrieve that ball, was it even worth it?
"Hey, I got it!" Scotty said after a long silence, "Why don't we just go over, and knock on the door, and ask Mr. Mertle if he can go get it for us?" Scotty suggested.
"Gee, Scotty. I wish I thought of that." Jackie said sarcastically, rolling her eyes.
"Are you out of your mind?" Squints said from beside Jackie, "Mr. Mertle's the meanest old man that ever lived. He's the one who made The Beast eat that kid." He explained. Scotty looked down in shame.
"He's probably not as mean as you guys think he is." Jackie began.
"It's not an option, Alonzo. Forget about it!" Squints said rather rudely, Scotty taking his words personally.
"Oh, okay. Sorry. I-I will." Scotty nodded, avoiding eye contact with everyone. Jackie took off Squints' glasses and chucked them on the other side of the treehouse. She tended to do that anytime she was mad at him, and it worked every time.
"Let's just look out the window." Squints said once he found his glasses. Not all the heads could fit out the window so only Ham, Scotty, Squints, Bertram, and Yeah-Yeah looked outside. Jackie heard The Beast snarl, that's when everyone scattered away from the window.
"He's daring us." Timmy worried, holding on to Jackie's shoulders and using her as a shield, even though they were indoors.
"We're on his territory now," Ham said.
"Anybody got any bright ideas?" Benny asked the group, no one replying.
"Yeah, I do. Let's just forget about it and accept Scotty's death." Jackie shrugged. Timmy removed his hands from her shoulders, staring at her confusingly. The rest of the group stared at her as Scotty had a look of hurt on his face. "Oh, my God. Relax! I was just joking." She laughed.
"Really?" Benny deadpanned.
"Okay, okay. I think I have an idea, but I don't think it'll work honestly. But It's better than nothing, right?" Jackie looked around the room, everyone eager to hear her plan.
