Knock Knock

...

Knock knock

...

KNOCK KNOCK-

"Will you give him a minute?" Jackie shouted frustratingly at Scotty.  Scotty smiled shyly, lowering his hand from the door.  He held The Beast by the collar while he stood in front of the door, Jackie and Benny behind him.  The door opened to reveal an older man, wearing dark glasses.  Jackie considered the idea that he was blind, which made her slightly sad.

"Hello?" The man asked, looking out his screen door.  She was certain he was blind, they were right in front of him.

"This is bad.  This is very bad." Squints nodded, taking off his glasses and rubbing them against his shirt.

"Um, we- we- ... we brought your dog home." Scotty said to the man, looking back at Benny and Jackie who only shrugged.

"Hercules?  How'd he get out?" The man asked, his voice low.

"I'm telling you guys, we should've just turned it loose." Squints continued to panic.

"Um, uh, well, uh- we, uh-"

"Well, what happened was, we hit a baseball into your yard.  We tried to get it back." Benny interrupted Scotty, who was silently thankful that he didn't have to speak.

"So you're the ones that've been making all that racket." The man guessed, still looking way over their heads.

"Yes, sir." Jackie nodded, even though he couldn't see her.  She was hoping he wouldn't be that mad, especially since they've all been through enough for that day.  The man opened the screen door.

"You get it?" The man questioned.

"Get what?" Jackie asked.

"The ball.  Did you get the ball?" The man replied, holding his hand out.  Jackie felt like crying.  The ball they worked so hard to get back, they had to give to the man whose dog held a grudge between them.  Benny handed the ball to Scotty to give to the man since he was the closest.

Um, y-yeah." Scotty handed the ball to the man.  He held it close to him, rolling it around in his hands.

"Well, first time that anybody ever got the best of old Hercules.  Why didn't you just knock on the door?  I'd have gotten it for you." The man told them as if they were idiots.  Jackie slowly turned to Squints.

"Squints, you moron."

"Squints!" They all attacked him, which he knew he deserved as he ducked his head into his hands.
