A F I A P A T E L

"Are you sure I look fine?" I stare at my reflection in the full body length mirror in my room,my head locked slightly to the side. I wore a cream coloured skirt that dragged on the floor every time I walked. I paired it that with a maroon long sleeved shirt and my maroon scarf.

The whole time during yesterday's supper with the Khans my mother kept insisting that Ubaidullah,Ahmad Saeed and I should go to the mall and I quote 'spend some quality time together.' I huffed and turned around to Yasmeen, who was lying down on my bed with her sock cladded feet resting on my white walls. She was sucking a bubblegum flavored lollipop while humming to the song that was echoing from her phone. I scowled at her and she turned her head towards me, flashing me an innocent smile. She knew I hated when my white walls had a stain or mark on them.

"Can you stop being a five year old for once and help me!" I dramatically say while waving my hands in the air. She takes the lollipop out of her, now very blue, mouth with a pop and moves her feet off my beloved walls.

"Shush you, pot calling the kettle black. You do the exact same thing at my house."

"But you have grey walls! There's a difference!" I pout. Okay maybe she's right but...I got nothing.

"Yeah yeah whatever," she rolls her eyes and gets up from the bed, "now ,since mrs drama queen has gotten over her dilemma with her precious wall, lets get down to real business."

She places her hands on her hip and circles me while making noises like mhm or hmm and I see. Finally she stops in front of me and places her hands over her chest.

"You look good for once. I'm pretty shocked to say the last." She moves her head up and down, the lollipop still in her mouth. "Oh please like you look any better. You look like a homeless person on a daily basis." I deadpan. "But seriously, do you think I'm overdressed?"

She takes the half eaten lollipop out of her mouth before turning me around to face the mirror. I look at her reflection confused and she places her hand on my shoulders. Her lollipop dangerously close to my face. "Definitely not, you look absolutely stunning. Look at you, you'll probably give Ubaidullah a heart attack when he sees you. If he didn't like you then-which he totally did- he'll definitely like you now." She exclaims. She puts the lollipop back in her mouth before taking it out. This time no lollipop is there and only the stick is left. She flings the stick in my bin.

I groan and throw my head back a little. "I'm not dressing up for Ubaidullah,Y." My lips form a frown. If I look good its for myself only. I sure as hell don't need to impress anyone. "Mhm sure and I'm the queen of the underworld." She mutters sarcastically and I let out a small giggle.

"Right now, you're definitely playing the role for it." She throws me a smirk and runs head first towards me. Might I add Yasmeen ran tracks when we were in highschool. Don't ask me how but my tiny legs definitely can't run as fast as her.

"Yasmeen!" I yell as I fall on the plush white carpet. Her hippopotamus body on top of me. "Get off of me, you big oak! You weigh a ton!" She gasped and put more of her weight on top of me. I struggled to breath and with my free hand smacked her repeatedly on the back of her head. She scowled and moved to get off me. I grinned in triumph and she huffed. "Geez women, you hit worse than a man on steroids."

"And you look like a man."
