The classroom was filled with chatter, and laughter. Students were talking to each other, friend groups began to form on some tables. Everyone was hanging out with someone whether it be because of studying, talking about their interest or the latest gossip.
Well, everyone except Tin.
Tin was just sat at the farthest corner watching the scene in front of him with a bored expression. He was like a separate entity from every thing around him. He felt like a ghost, invisible to everyone, and can't interact with anything.
Don't get him wrong he's not mean or cold or anything, he's actually pretty fun to hang around with. It's just that his status makes it hard to have any friends, let alone acquaintances. He was considered as the popular one. He was rich, had luxury items, and designer clothing. He was also blessed with a marvelous physique. He was adored, and praised for his handsome features making anyone who looks at him just stare in admiration or jealousy.
You would think that because of these qualities, he'd be having plenty of friends to talk or hang out with, but it is due to these that he has no one aside from Pete, his one, and only friend. Everyone is scared to approach him, thinking he'd reject them because their not 'on his level' which really pisses Tin off since he only wants people to talk to him. Is that too much to ask?
He wanted to have fun like the others, go to parties, hang out with friends, do silly shenanigans, he wanted to experience those stuff. Being popular is a blessing, and a curse. He stares at the different groups that had formed wondering when he'll experience being in one of them.
When will he be able to experience that? When will he be able to just let loose with people, and be comfortable? When will he be happy knowing that someone wanted to befriend him because they genuinely want to?
If your think that he just make the first move, well he did that already. He tried approaching a group of students once back when he was in first year. The news about his status was already spreading at that time. He had noticed that these students were fairly social so he decided to make a connection with them. He would ask them for directions for his class, and ask them to accompany him. He didn't just ask them to make friends, he really did not know where his next class is. But when he did ask them, they were just standing there, staring at each other. After Tin asked them again, they were able to answer it, but because of the awkward tension he hadn't had the chance to follow his plan.
He knew why they acted like that, and it's because of his status. He knew this because he overheard a conversation from those students talking about the incident. They were shocked that a famous guy was talking to them, they were scared of him because of that, thinking he'd do something to them. He was frustrated, what kind of thought process is that? He just wanted to have a conversation, and make a good impression but even before the interaction the chances of making a connection were near impossible.
He continued to just sit there, his arm propped up on the table where he rests his chin on his hand, his train of thought running through his mind until the professor came, and he fixes his posture. But he is wondering one thing, where the hell is Pete? It's not like him to be late to class, heck he was even surprised that he arrived earlier than him. Pete was usually the one who would come first between the two of them.
The professor greeted the class first before starting the lesson. Tin was still thinking about Pete, but decided that it be best that he listen to the professor thinking that maybe he was sick so he couldn't make it. After some moments, Tin's attention to the lesson presented was fading, so he looked around the room. His eyes drifted to the door to see Pete peaking through. Tin's eyes widen in surprise, and amusement. Pete looked in his direction, and signaled to help him. Tin watched as the professor turned his back in a way were Pete would not be spotted. Tin signaled him to come over so he did, making sure to not track attention towards him.
Once he was sat next to Tin, he thanked him, and put his attention to the lesson, Tin following.
"That was unexpected of you." Said Tin while writing something. "What do you mean? I always thank you for your kindness." Pete was a bit offended by what he said. Tin looked at him, raising an eyebrow, "Not that, I was taking about you being late." he stated, going back to writing. "Oh" was the only thing Pete muttered, a blush forming on his cheeks. Tin took notice of this, and asked. "Why were you late anyway? It's not like you to be late. I was shocked when I came here, and didn't see you."
Pete didn't know how to answer that, he has an answer but is to embarrassed to state his reason. Tin looked at him, awaiting for his friend's answer. Pete just looked anywhere but Tin's direction. "Uhmm..." Tin was getting a little impatient. "Come on just tell me. It's not like we're not close. If it's something embarrassing then... It's your fault for doing that." Tin stifled a laugh while Pete slapped him in the arm. "Well? Are you going to tell me or not?"
Pete took another moment before answering. "awas tesing ey letre nei" Tin wore a confused expression. "I was texting Ae late at night." Pete said a louder this time for Tin to hear clearly. "Ohhh, I guess Mr. Late Night Talks must be more important than classes the next morning." Pete slapped his arm again, his cheeks flaring up. "Shut up, at least I have someone."
"Oh woe is me, I'm so pitiful! How could I possibly know what you should prioritize when I, a simple man, does not have someone to love like the oh so great Pete!" Tin dramatically enacted, teasing Pete more. "Oh just shut up, and pay attention. You're attracting attention to us." Pete said, looking back at the professor.
Tin looked back, and sighed. His mind went back to what he was thinking originally. Yeah Pete was his friend because he was kind enough not to mind his status people has placed on him. Pete was a great friend but is it too much to ask to have another. Whenever Pete was busy he had no one to go to. He was alone most of the time, he'd burry himself in works or his phone but he's not getting the same feelings like he does with Pete. With another sigh, he listened to the lecture, putting his thoughts to the back of his mind.
