Part 4

The photo on the desk was that of Kei going shopping with her friends. If I had to guess, Nagumo must have kept a close eye on people he suspected to be close to me as well, more specifically, Kei.

"I have no clue what you're talking about."

"Don't play dumb now, I got this information from one of my underlings who's had their eye on you for a while."

By his tone, I could tell that he held no doubt about my relationship with Kei, however, there should have been no way for a 3rd year to know about that. There were very few people that knew or were atleast suspicious about my connection with Kei, so I could probably pinpoint the person who gave him this information.

"I assume that she'll be in danger if I don't play along?"

"Correct."

Although I doubt Kei would crack under Nagumo's pressure, I'd still prefer him not to go after her, both in the exam and afterwards.

"Even if I comply, how should I know you wouldn't try to pull the same thing you did with Tachibana-senpai now."

"It's your decision to trust me, but whether you team up with her or not doesn't matter to me, I'll expel you either way."

I let out a sigh and closed my eyes in thought.

From what I've deduced of Nagumo's way of operating, the chance of him sabotaging Kei during the exam is large. If I make a team with Kei, she will be at risk of expulsion due to the White Room student and the Acting Director, and if I leave her to a team of her own, not only her, but her partner would be in danger from Nagumo while I was limited in ways to help. Both situations are definitely not ideal, but the choice is clear.

"Alright, I'll entertain you for this exam, but let me give you a warning... "

The image of Nagumo's figure becomes visible as I slowly opened my eyes. The eyes I carried in the white room, the eyes that no matter how much I tried, could only see in black and white, a world void of colour. A world of darkness.

"I'm not going to be easy to expel."

The room carried an intense atmosphere as we stared at each other. I could see his eyes widen a bit. Shock, surprise... and fear.

The next moment he shows an excited grin.

"...Kukuku, I can see why Horikita-senpai respected you so much. Those eyes aren't the eyes of a normal student, no, a human. What exactly happened to you?"

"I can't recall anything of significance."

"Well, I suppose it doesn't matter. You are free to leave now."

I stood up and made my way to the door, the last words of Nagumo were quiet, but still clear.

"Don't disappoint me now, Ayanokouji Kiyotaka."

===CHANGE SCENE===

On my way back to the class, I realized that the halls were now completely empty. My quick trip somehow went on for longer than I thought. It has been about 10 minutes since I left, and about 15 minutes since the final bell of school, so it's not surprising that the halls were deserted.

When I entered the class, I saw Horikita concentrated with her notes, alone. She must have been waiting for me to get back.

"How's it going?"

Hearing my voice, Horikita turned to face me.

"It's harder than I thought, some of the student's preferences and needs don't align."
