I ran as fast as I could in the hallways, but there still wasn't any sign of James. I gave up and ran back to my room. Maybe, he left. Maybe, he was in town when the queen announced the engagement. At least, that's what I thought. As I entered the room, I saw a little piece of paper on my bed.
"Goodbye Amberly...
James"
I read the paper again and again. And then, I ripped it to pieces. I sat down on the floor and cried. Why does my mother always have to break what I love...? James needs this job. He needs the money for him and his sister (even if she is a jerk...) If I go now, I can still stop him and explain everything to him. I hope he will listen to me... I ran as fast as I can outside. James was there with his things and he was leaving. Not if I can stop him.
-James. I yelled.
-Amberly. He said turning around. I could see the pain in his eyes. He was hurt.
-I can explain. I said.
-You don't have to. I can't be better then a duke, so I'll just go. He said whispering.
-You can't go. I said, tears leaving my eyes.
-Why shouldn't I? Give me just one reason to not go.
-Well, I didn't choose to marry Asher. I didn't even know I had to marry him.
That was a lie.
-Amberly, even if you didn't marry him... how could it have worked?
-But... I said crying.
-No buts. He said and I could see that even if that hurt him, he didn't want to leave.
-I want you.... I said.
-Even if it wasn't Asher, it would have been someone else... James said.
-James, do not go. I forbid you to! You need this job and even if you do not want to be with me, you need to stay here. I said angry.
-I do want to be with you, he began, but...
-If you want us to be together, it can work. I said, taking his hands into mine.
- We are too much different...
-Then, I won't be in your way... But you have to stay here. I continued.
He looked at me and again, I saw the pain in his eyes. He wasn't angry, just hurt...
-I'll stay. He said whispering then he removed his hands from mine and walked back to the castle.
I sat down quietly on the bench and looked at him go. He isn't wrong, even if I do not want to admit it. Tears flooded through my eyes and my vision was a blur. How can I pass beside him and not start crying? Some could say that I'm just a baby, because I cry too much, but what we had was strong, even if we just met each other. I just can't stand to let him go that easily. Someone approached me and sat down next to me. For one second, I hoped it was James, but when I looked at the person, I was disappointed to see it wasn't him. It was Asher. My soon-to-be-husband...
-You really seem to think, I am that bad, because every time, I find you back here crying. He said smiling.
- No, you aren't. I just had a bad day. I said trying to smile.
-That doesn't convince me princess. He said suspicious.
-Just know, it's not because of you. Well... You are a great guy, but...
-There was someone else huh? He said smirking.
-Well, we could say that. I said blushing.
-That's okay, I won't tell your mother, you just have to promise me I won't find you here crying again. He continued.
