24 hours agoXander was walking home, it was 9:30 p.m., and he had just left his older brother's new house. He was very tired. He just wanted to go to bed and watch tv shows till 3:30 a.m. Okay, maybe it didn't make much sense, but he knew he wouldn't waste his last week of vacation going to sleep before midnight.
The sky was completely dark, and there were not many stars. He had heard someone say once that you can't see the stars so often when you live in a city with too many artificial lights. Xander wondered if one day he would see a sky full of stars. Maybe it was just a movie thing.
Everything was quiet. The streets were empty. No cars. No people. When suddenly, a shriek broke the silence. It was coming from right behind him. As a reflect, he turned, just to see a boy. He looked about 20 years old and he was attacking a young woman. He froze. What would he do? He needed to help her. He took his phone off his pocket, put the password, and was going to call the police when the phone died. I have to help her! He thought and jumped between the boy and the girl.
At first, Xander couldn't really see what the boy was doing to the girl, it was too dark. But when he looked at the boy's face, he saw blood. Then, he looked to the girl's neck, there was a big bloody wound and she was screaming in pain. Had he bitten her? Was he crazy? Why would he do that? He thought. Looking more clearly to the boy, that now had stopped trying to attack the girl. Xander could see that he had red eyes and... Fangs? What is happening? He could only be seeing things. It's impossible right? Vampires are not real? Or are they?
"Good job!" The vampire? Spoke. "Saving the troubled girl! She is not in any more trouble then you are." He said advancing on Xander. He could only feel the blood coming from the wound in his neck, and then, he fainted.
When Xander woke up, he was in a small room with no bed and no windows. He reached for his neck, but there was no wound. Weird. He thought while examining the room. On his left side, was the girl. She was awake, and her wound. Gone.
"Good morning." Said the girl. Her dark skin, long curly hair and a red leather jacket with black boots were barely visible in the dark light of the room.
"Hi" he responded. The girl didn't look surprised, or scared. How? He was terrified.
Realising his confused face, she spoke:
"I am Jade." She said.
"I am Xander."
"Cool name."
"Thanks... So, where are we?" he asked.
"We are in a vampire's basement." What? "Sorry I got you into this mess."
"Sorry, but I don't understand. Vampires are not real, and I have no idea of what happened last night! I thought I had seen that guy bit you, and then me, but I don't see any bites, just blood. How would it be you fault?"
"They are. It happened." Jade said calmly.
"What?"
"They are real. Vampires are real. And you're not wrong, we did get bitten last night. And it's my fault. I was talking to people I shouldn't, going places I shouldn't even know existed. I was the target, not you."
"Okay." He said trying to prosses what she had said. "If we were bitten last night, how come we are not hurt?"
Jade whispered something that sounded like "I will give you the strength of ten men, the speed of lightning and the power of healing not just yourself but others."
"They gave us their blood." She said. "If they kill us..." She stopped.
"What? What happens?" Xander asked.
