REINA'S POV

The picnic went well. We finished our planning, made a few more necessary appointments for the quickly approaching wedding, then we got a bite to eat. When I came back home, I was ready to submerge myself in a nice bubble bath and read a book to lull myself to sleep. But my plans were put on halt as I pulled up to my house, and found a very familiar figure seated on my porch.

I ran out of my car while Liana stood up from where she was sitting, and I frown at the pajamas she wore. "What's wrong?" I asked immediately, considering from her attire alone it's abundantly apparent this trip wasn't planned. "Did you call me and I missed it?" I rushed out, already fishing for my phone in my bag with a racing heart.

My movement is stopped as Liana's hand grabs mine, and when I turn to her, my heart breaks in two at the sight of her teary eyes. "He came back," she says lowly, and I instantly go stiff. "He got back an hour ago, I left as soon as he showed up, and came here."

I swallow the lump in my throat. "Do they...do they know you're here?" Liana shakes her head. "Okay...uh..." I feel the pinch of a headache coming on, but I know better than to show any distress by Liana's news. "Um, take Charlie, go inside, and I'll go get your stuff for you. Okay?"

She hesitates. "You're gonna go get it?"

I nod. "Yeah, I'll get it." I make quick work of unhooking my spare key from my key ring, handing it to Liana along with Charlie's leash. "I want you to keep that, okay? I don't know how long you're staying, but keep it for good, just in case." She slowly nods, and she turns away from me quickly to wipe away a tear that shed. "I'll be back as soon as possible, Lia, I promise."

Liana doesn't say anything, just walks up the steps of the porch and into the house with her key. I wait until the front door shuts before turning back to my car, my heart racing as I get into the driver's seat. It's when I finally start driving that my thoughts finally begin to make sense.

He came back. He came back twice in the span of a few months. Why? Why is now any different than before? Was it because things were going well for me for once? Did the universe tell him that whenever I was getting a little too happy that he needed to come back? He needed to ruin things for me. Take me back to a time where happiness seemed like something unattainable. A time where he took all color from my life and expected me to navigate through the black and white reality.

I park in front of the house, already seeing the light of the tv shining through the curtains. My eyes squeeze shut as I try to get a grip of my emotions, then I get out of the car and make my way up the path to the house. I step into the house with no discretion, the front door creaking from the force at which I opened it and thumping against the wall.

"Liana? Is that you?" I hear my mom's voice call out. Moments later she steps into the foyer, a look of relief on her face that quickly fades into dread. "Why are you..." She trails off, a look of realization settling as she comes up with the answer to her question. She shakes her head viciously, and I see the tears gathering in her eyes already. "No, you can't, you can't."
