THIRD PERSON POV

Reina wasn't the type of woman to show her emotions. Especially not in highly populated areas. From a young age, she was expected to hide her feelings, to pretend everything was okay in even the worst situations. That escalated into full-on numbing herself to certain situations, twisting scenarios in her mind to make it seem like it was incapable of hurting her.

When she was a young girl watching her dad sneak out of her home from her bedroom window, she allowed a tear to slide down her cheek. That tear was very quickly swiped away as she turned away from the window, allowing the shadowy figure to disappear for a few years.

When she was confronted with the reality that the only man she ever grew to love had found someone else, she kept her head held high and forced herself to be okay. She opened the door for him when he was meant to leave, she let her lips spread into a smile as she ushered him out, her hands trembling from the effort she was exerting.

Time and time again, Reina told herself she wasn't capable of being upset by things like that. That she was used to the constant disappointment she was dealt to the point where she'd grown immune to the feeling. But she was so utterly wrong.

All she'd done those years was push her feelings away. Buried them far down enough that a person would be taking a risk by making the venture to discover them. Despite her best effort to keep them hidden down, only one person was able to sneakily navigate the twisting corridors that lead to her feelings. Slowly but surely, Matthew had made his way down there, taking the last swing at the stonewall that encased them and freeing her from the confines.

Oh, how she desperately wished to be trapped again.

Reina was at work, her head balanced on her hand as she stared blankly down at the boardroom table. She hadn't looked up in ages, so she hadn't registered all the confused looks being sent her way, the silence uncommon in the vicinity of Reina. Her finger tapped a pen against the folder placed in front of her, not once shifting to scribble something down as she usually did. It wasn't until the squeaking of chairs being pushed back sounded that she snapped out of her daze, her droopy eyes blinking a few times to bring herself back. She didn't lift her head as she stood up from the table, keeping it ducked down as she maneuvered around her coworkers.

It was that one meeting they had once a month that went on for too long. Except for this time it went on exceptionally long, so she'd no doubt have to make it up to Liana for being so late.

And she was going to be even later, she realizes, when her office door opens and in steps five of her coworkers, all wearing the same pinched brow, doe-eyed expression. Reina stops packing up her belongings for a moment, lowering the folder she's holding slowly as her eyes travel over all the women who just stepped in. Then she sighs, "I'm fine."
