Phoenix's P.O.V.
Today was the start of the regular season and my first ever NHL game, to say that I'm nervous is a huge understatement. It was currently 4:30 in the evening so I made my way over to the arena to start doing my pre game rituals and to make sure I was actually there on time.
I was standing in the kitchen making myself a PB&J sandwich, just a little snack to hold me over until the game was over, when Sid walked in. "Hey Birdie, you excited for tonight?" He asked while making his own PB&J sandwich "yeah, I am. Even though it feels like my stomach is going to fall out my ass right now" I told him, making him laugh quietly. "Don't worry about it, you're a great player and we've all got your back if you need us" he said patting my shoulder and then walked out of the kitchen.
The whole team was in the locker room getting ready for the game that started in 20 minutes. "Ok guys! This is our first game this year, we need to make sure that we can get to the Cup Finals this years. So we've gotta play hard, fast and smart, ok?" Coach said, making us all nod our heads and agree. "Ok, Sid's line is on first and Murray's in net!" He clapped his hands while everyone cheered and got up and went towards the ice. Oh my god, that means I'm on first with Sid's line. Holy crap, this is all happening so fast!
Once the opening ceremony and national anthem was over, my line stayed on the ice. Getting ready to face off against the Dallas Stars. I looked beside the home bench and saw my dad, Aaron, Billy and Jay sitting there, my heart felt incredibly happy knowing that they came.
The puck dropped, meaning the game has finally started. 'You're ok, you've got this man! You've playing this game a million times before. You can do this' I thought to myself while I skated as fast as I could to catch up with the game. We were in our zone when I got a hold of the puck and started skating towards the Dallas net, it was 1 on 1. As I got closer to the net, I did a spin-o-Rama, it hit the post and then went in.
My first NHL goal!!
The crowed cheered really loudly and my teammates all surrounded me, giving me a hug and congratulating me. "Good job Birdie!!" The rest of the team yelled as I went through the fist bump line and back onto the bench. As I sat down I looked beside me to see dad, Aaron, Billy and Jay with the biggest smiles and cheering the loudest. The game was finally over with the score of 4-2, us winning. With me scoring 3 of the winning goals.
After the game I was sitting in my stall waiting for the media people to come in, and while I waited I got changed into some sweat pants and a big sweater. "Hey, here are your pucks kid" Coach Sullivan said handing me my pucks, my pucks were for 1st NHL game, 1st NHL goal, and 1st Hat Trick "thanks Coach" I smiled and took them. Just as I grabbed them, the media people started to pile in.
"So Phoenix? How do you feel after tonight's game?" Someone asked "I feel great, I'm proud of the guys and how hard we all worked together" I smiled "so how have you been adjusting to the big leagues so far?" Someone else asked "its been very nerve racking, but I'm getting used to it now" I smiled again. After a few more questions they all left to go interview another player.
"Hey! There's the super star!" Aaron said exactly once he saw me. "Hey, hey" I smiled as I gave them all a hug "you did really great tonight honey. We're really proud of you" dad said as he kissed my head "thanks dad. And thanks for coming you guys, it meant a lot" I smiled at them again. "It's no problem, we love watching you play" Billy told me with a big smile.
