Phoenix's P.O.V.
Being the only female in the NHL is a little difficult sometimes, mostly because everybody wants to go after you and try to knock you down. Players on the ice or the people in the media.
Today we had an afternoon game against Philly, so the tension in the locker room was high. "Ok" Coach started "this game is going to be fast and dirty. We can't let them distract us from our goal, winning." He continued talking for a few more minutes before we went out onto the ice for warm ups.
As we were warming up, my gut kept telling me that something bad was going to happen. I looked around the arena, taking deep breath's and telling myself to calm down, that nothing bad was going to happen.
It was early into the third period, so far nothing bad has happened.
I hopped out onto the ice and raced towards the puck, after a few minutes my shift was over. I was heading over to the bench fairly quickly when I felt something under my feet, making me trip and go head first into the boards next to the bench. Instantly feeling something in my shoulder crack really hard. "Fuck me!" I shouted, slowly trying to get up, but sadly failing.
The medical trainer came over to me and started checking me over while I was laying on my back. "Hey kid, don't move, ok? You might have a concussion." He he said before waving over to get the stretcher "okie dokie" I said with a small smile.
"Ouch" I said as the medics shifted me around, trying to help me get my gear off, making me groan. "Sorry Birdie. I'm going to need to go squeeze my fingers" I did "and move your shoulders?" I did, but hissed when I moved my left shoulder. "Ok, so it looks like it's just a broken collarbone. But it seems like it might be something a bit more than that. We're going to bring you over to the hospital to get that fixed up, alright" he stated, I gave him a thumbs up so he knew I heard him. A few hours later, the hospital had taken me into surgery for my shoulder and then put a sling on my arm to make sure nothing moves.
I was sitting in a room watching tv, still groggy from surgery, when I heard my door opening. I looked to see who it was and saw my dad and my uncles. I gave a small wave "what did you do?" Dad asked with a panicked voice as he came to sit beside me. "During the game I got slammed into the board and broke my collarbone" I said with a sigh "well shit, that sucks" he said with a small laugh. I gave him my best "no shit" face, making him and the guys laugh a little bit.
I had to stay in the hospital for a day or so before I could go home. Dad and the guys decided to take some time off work to help me, which I kept saying no to, but they wouldn't listen. After I finished filling out the discharge papers, we all walked out to my car that I had one of the boys bring over after the game. I gave dad the keys, seeing as how I couldn't drive at the moment.
Once we got back to my place, I sat on the couch and turned Netflix on so I could watch How I Met Your Mother, a few minutes later the guys joined me. "So how long are you out for?" Jay asked "I should be out for about 6 to 8 weeks" I sighed, stupid injury.
"So how's hunting the dead been?" I asked once I came back into the room after getting a snack and drink from the kitchen. "It's been good, we just finished doing a lockdown at an old prison before we came over here" dad smiled and took a chip. "That sounds fun, and I'm sorry that you guys had to stop working to come here to see me" I said with a small laugh "it's totally fine, we wanted to help you" Aaron smiled over at me.
Maybe this won't be so bad. It might actually be fun having these guys here with me for a while.
