There was a knock on my door. On the other side, I could hear Yellow calling, "Red? You up?"
I lifted by face from the pillow and brushed the dark bangs away from my eyes. I had been up for the last hour, but only because I couldn't sleep. "Yeah," I groaned while sitting up.
The door opened, and Yellow's face was the first thing I saw. Hazel eyes met my stare through long, golden hair. "Are you okay?" he asked. However, when he took a good look at my face, he shook his head and added, "Never mind. That's a stupid question."
"Why are you here, Yellow?" I asked bluntly, resting my back against the wall. I shifted my gaze to the starry void beyond the window of my cabin, which was all there was to see after the Skeld departed from Mira HQ.
He opened the door fully but didn't step in. "I wanted to say sorry for accusing you. We were getting nowhere, and I really wanted to actually push the investigation forward."
"If that meant accusing me of killing my own best friend, then I would've been alright with having things go nowhere."
Yellow shuffled awkwardly in his place. "I was paranoid. I didn't want to be too careful. . . ."
"I was ready to punch you."
"Well, fair enough."
A sigh left my nose. "Well, now that I think about it, I can't exactly blame you. If I were the impostor, killing my own best friend probably would've been the best idea to draw suspicion away from myself."
"Speaking of the impostor, is everyone still careful about who it is?"
He sighed through his nose. "Considering how we got it wrong with Purple, they're all definitely on edge. But Cyan has been so unbelievably suspicious for the entire duration of this murder mystery, so I'm confident that we're safe."
"Same here," I said. "We should've voted that piece of shit out at the beginning."
"Cyan and Orange were really close," Yellow commented. "I wonder how that carrot's feeling, after having to give the last piece of evidence prior to her ejection."
I managed to chuckle. "Funny enough, I actually suspected Orange at the start of this mystery. But not anymore. I guess it was just an unlucky coincidence that he happened to be the tech guy in a mystery where an impostor was messing with us via technology. If I was in his place, I'd be stressing the hell out."
Yellow looked thoughtful. "I'm being honest right now—Orange is a pretty chill guy. You should talk to him, get to know him more."
"Actually, I've been meaning to ask him some stuff regarding the latest ejection and the whole thing. Since I can't sleep at all, maybe I'll do that now," I answered.
"Hell, he's the reason I'm even brave enough to speak about the things I saw."
I blinked. "For me, it was the Commander." Then, I stared at him. "Looks like we're both the wussies of this murder mystery, huh?"
He smiled. "Alright, I'm going to go to sleep," he announced, to which I nodded. Just as he turned, though, he looked back at me. "Could I ask one more thing?"
"Yeah?"
"Did you ever suspect me?"
I slipped out of my bunk and stood up, stretching my arms while shaking my head no. "If you were the impostor, you probably would've been caught right after Lime's death."
