☆ Unexpected Coffee ☆ ~ A Saimota Fic

Chapter 2: Coffee

~ First Person POV~

(Shuichi)

I looked at the time, It was 5:48. Ah, that's good, we can study together for the rest of the day.

"Since we're going to be working together, can I sit with ya for a bit?" Kaito asked. I was somewhat reluctant to answer him. Oh no, what If I do something weird? It shouldn't be that hard to work with someone, I can't be rude and just decline his offer. I took a deep breath.

"Of course." I gave him a soft smile, in which he returned.

"Thanks, man! I won't let you down! I left my stuff over there though, let me just get it real quick." Kaito then rushed over to the original spot he was at. He grabbed his backpack, there were some space-themed pins on it. That's cute I thought. He quickly grabbed the books he was reading and placed them in his backpack. I couldn't really see what kind of books he was into, maybe I'll ask him about that later. He then grabbed his drink. It was an Iced coffee, I've never been a huge fan of Iced coffee, but it honestly looked really good. He started to walk over to me again.

"I got my stuff, now all we gotta do is think of a subject for our project."  As he was saying that, he sat down on the chair next to mine and grabbed his laptop out of his backpack and put it on the counter. He drank a small bit of his coffee and placed it on the counter as well.

"Any ideas? Since this is for Earth and Space Science, I was thinking about making our presentation about space shuttle design and function." Kaito said.

"Yeah! That sounds perfect. We'll both be able to write about the different structures and components."  I said. Kaito gave me a thumbs up.

"Yeah, dude! We totally got this!" He gave me another one of his signature smiles. After that, we worked on our project for the rest of the day. We talked about school, and how both of us haven't been able to make new friends yet. We finished around 6 out of 14 slides in our presentation. I wasn't expecting Kaito to work so well with me, I felt really satisfied. Once it was visibly dark outside, the streetlamps lit up. It brightened up the mood in the cafe, it honestly made me feel even cozier than I already was. Many people came in and out of the cafe while we were talking, but we barely noticed. It was as if we were in our own world. Kaito was able to talk to me about many subjects, such as space, his hobbies, and his dreams. This whole day was a pleasant surprise.

"Oh jeez, look at the time Shuichi, It's 8:40!" I looked at the clock, it was indeed 8:40. It seems as if we both didn't realize how much time passed.

"What? No way, It seems like we should head on home now." My aunt would be worried if I came home later than nine...

"Yeah, I think so too... but before we go, we gotta exchange numbers!" Kaito then grabbed his phone out of his pocket.

"Do ya have a phone?" He asked.

"Yes, I do." I grabbed my phone out of my backpack.

"Aw sweet! Can I add my number?" I nodded and gave Kaito my phone. After a few seconds, he handed it back to me. He put his contact name as "Luminary Of The Stars" Ha, I like it.

"Call me whenever! Let me know when you get home safely. Talk to ya later, Shuichi."

"Yeah, see you later Kaito." and with that, Kaito left first. The door jingled once he walked out the door. Today was a good day.

...

Once I got home, I was greeted by my aunt.

"Welcome back Shuichi! Your uncle is still working. What have you been up to?" My aunt said. As I walked in, I could smell the lavender incense that my aunt had put.

"I was at the bookstore cafe... and I made a friend as well."  My aunt then burst into a smile.

"That's amazing Shuichi! What's their name? You have to tell me all about them!" I sat down on the kitchen table and talked with my aunt about Kaito. I told her about his interest in space and about the project we were doing. She was delighted to know more about my new friend, and I was more than happy to talk with her about him. But of course, it was getting late.

"Alright Shuichi, it about time for you to take a shower and head on over to bed. I hope you can tell me even more about Kaito tomorrow!" I nodded and smiled at my aunt as I headed over to take a shower.

...

After I finished my shower, I headed back to my room. I immediately launched myself onto my bed and grabbed my phone. 

"Hey Kaito, sorry I couldn't text you sooner, I had to take a shower and my aunt was talking to me. I got home safely!" - Shuichi 

Kaito almost immediately responded with 

"That's totally okay! My grandparents talked with me as well. It's getting really late right now tho, we should go to sleep! :)" - Kaito 

"Yes, I think so too, sweet dreams Kaito :)" - Shuichi 

"Sweet dreams Shuichi! See ya at school." - Kaito

I already organized all my work for tomorrow and changed into my pajamas. And for once, I was actually happy to go to school.

Hey guys! Author here! School has been a pain in the butt for me lately :( We've been having a bunch of assignments and it's honestly really hard to keep up with them. So, sorry if some chapters are longer/shorter than others and if some chapters feel rushed. I'll try my best to update every Monday!
