Now Arriving: Hopes Peak Academy.

(Shuichi's POV)

"We're here man!" Kaito says. He gets up from his seat and waits for me to get up as well. We both exit the bus and look up at the school. It's a fairly large high school, with many students to make up for it as well.

"Nice, it seems like we're the first ones here! Well... except for those guys." Kaito gestures over to two seniors. They're riding on a motorcycle.

"I'm pretty sure the study room should be open for us to wait in before class, wanna go?" I nodded. We then walked into the gates. Before we went in, I reached for my backpack and grabbed my hat.

(Kaito's POV)

While we walked into the school, we saw some teachers here and there. Our homeroom teacher took our attendance, then we were free to go to the study room. The entire school was empty, it genuinely made me feel weird. We passed many classrooms before we made it to the staircase, and let me tell you, that was the most awkward feeling I've had in years. Shuichi hasn't been talking much since we got off the bus. He's pretty much stiff in emotion. It gave me a totally different feel from him than when we met at the cafe. C'mon man! You gotta say something! I took a glimpse over to him while we walked up the stairs, he definitely looked exhausted by just being here.

"...Hey Kaito?" the noise of Shuichi's voice almost made me flinch in the silence.

"Yeah? What's up?" He looked up to me slowly... and smiled?!

"Thanks for talking to me... you're probably the first friend I've ever walked to school with. I get... ah, nevermind! It was nothing, just, thank you." Shuichi looked and smiled up to me, but he quickly couldn't keep eye contact and turned away. There's definitely something up with Shuichi, but I can tell he doesn't want me to be worried. So, I won't push the issue for now. I just need to keep track of how he's doing. I'm definitely gonna help him!

"It's no problem, man! You're my first friend here too, so, thanks!" I smiled at him, he did too. Even though we're in the same class, it was as if he was never noticed. The only times he would speak was at attendance, and he sat alone in the back of the class. The teachers never really picked on him, which made him feel even more like a ghost student. He always wears that hat too, I wonder why?

...

Once we reached the study room, Shuichi's mood lightened just a bit. He walked over to one of the big couches near the study books, so I followed his lead and went over there as well.

"What do ya wanna do? We have like 20 minutes till class starts." I asked him. He thought about what to say, and then replied.

"We could... study together." Shuichi then points to a comfortable looking table near the books. I nod in approval. Studying right now doesn't sound so bad, plus, I wanna make Shuichi as comfortable as possible right now.

"Of course! I kinda need help with the English homework." I then watch Shuichi sit down at the table, and take out the English work we had.

"I can help you." A soft smile comes across his face. Woah, he's definitely happy right now! Once I see that Shuichi's not that timid anymore, a smile forms on my face as well.

"Alright!"

(Shuichi's POV)

Kaito is being beyond charming, as usual. I have no idea what he sees in a loner like me, not that I mind the warmth he gives me. I was glad when he asked me to help him with the English, since, it was the first time I ever helped a friend. I don't want him to worry about me in school, if he finds out about my issues, he might leave me. I don't want anyone to feel as if I'm helpless and unstable, especially Kaito. He's my first friend, If I ever lose him for my insecurities, I don't know what I'd do. Almost reflectively, I lower my hat.

...

We studied for quite some time. We both had our computers, so it was way easier to help Kaito. He'd show me videos on YouTube, and other cool stuff. In turn, I showed him some of the things I saved while on the internet. Like T.V shows, books, and videos. I felt like I got to know him better, and I'm sure he feels the way as well. After a while, more students showed up in the study room. Usually, when that happens, I leave the room or start to feel uncomfortable. With Kaito here, I feel absolutely fine, just like at the cafe. I don't know how to name these feelings just yet, but all of them make me feel serene. I wonder... if he feels the same about me...?

"Hey, Shuichi! Look at this!" I looked over to what Kaito wanted to show me, but before I could see it, the bell rang.

"Aw man, class is starting. Oh yeah! I was thinking, what If I ask the teacher if I could switch seats with that dude that sits next to you?" Wait... someone sits next to me?

"Y-Yeah! I'd like that." A huge grin comes across Kaito's face as he packs up his laptop and homework.

"Sweet!" The sound of his voice is striking. I started to pack my things, and follow Kaito out the door.

...

Kaito guided me through the halls and opened the class door for me. He knows what he's doing, doesn't he? I let out an unnoticeable blush at his actions towards me.  I walk to my desk while Kaito discusses with our Teacher about switching his seat. The classroom was relatively empty, only a few students were showing up here and there. Sunlight was shining through the windows of the class, so when Kaito gave me a thumbs up and a grin from the front of the class, butterflies formed in my stomach. Once he arrived at the seat next to me, I snapped out of my trance.

"The Teacher let me switch seats! That guy already wanted a different one anyway, so I could get it easier!"

"That's great...!" I didn't really know what else to say, I was still kinda nervous, and I don't think I can keep up with Kaito's optimism. I lowed my head. I could get a hint of his eyes studying my motions, so he sat down. This is mortifying!  I still had a loss for words, but suddenly, as if he could read my mind, Kaito placed a hand on my shoulder.

"Yo, do you think I can come over to your house today? I asked the teacher what assignments we're having, so, I kinda want to work on them with you..?" I could tell that his bravado was slowly fading while asking me that. I tried my best to break eye contact, but with him looking at me like that, It was hard to look away.

"Of course! I'd like that very much... my aunt and uncle want to meet you as well." And just like that, the school day began.
