| CHAPTER SIX |
HE GOT THE BADGE.
WHEN HARRY ARRIVED BACK WITH Arthur Weasley from the Ministry of Magic, the almost fifteen year old was in a much better mood; he wasn't getting expelled from Hogwarts. The good news seemed to have that effect on everyone else as well; Sirius finally managed to relax, his face void of worry. Echo was ecstatic that the spectacled boy was going to be able to finish his education, hopefully becoming an Auror just like he wanted. The Weasley's were also excited about it, Molly Weasley gushed over the young boy, whilst the kids were happy that their friend was coming back to school with them.
Things were finally looking up for everyone. Well, everyone apart from the twins, the pair were more than annoyed about the fact that Ron had become a Prefect. A bloody Prefect! Whilst Molly ran around the young boy, the twins simply glared at him, not believing that their brother (the only one left at Hogwarts) would follow in the footsteps of Charlie, Percy and Bill.
"Were you ever a Prefect?" Harry questioned, looking over at his Godfather. The Weasley's (apart from Charlie, Bill and Percy), Sirius, Echo, Remus, Tonks, Harry and Hermione were all gathered around the long dinner table, enjoying the lovely dinner Molly cooked for them all, whilst chatting away happily.
Echo almost choked on her drink at Harry's question, before she placed her cup down and shared an amused grin with Remus.
Sirius let out a bark-like laugh, "No one would have made me a Prefect," He grinned, "I spent too much time in detention with James. Lupin was a good boy, he got the badge."
"I think Dumbledore might have hoped I would be able to exercise some control over my best friends," Remus stated, an amusement glint in his eyes, "I need scarcely says that I failed dismally."
"Your mum, on the other hand," Sirius grinned at Harry, "She was a force to be reckon with."
Harry's eyes widened in surprise, "My-My mum was a Prefect?"
The trio of adults nodded.
"She certainly was," Remus told him, "And it's a good thing that she was; she was willing to do certain Prefect duties by herself...You know, once every month."
As Remus continued to talk to Harry about his mother, Echo couldn't help but get lost in her own thoughts. She couldn't help but think about her old friends, about James Potter with his cocky smirk always plastered on his face, his puppy love eyes looking at the redhead Gryffindor he was so captivated by. Lily Evans, who was probably one of the sweetest people Echo had ever had the pleasure of befriending. She was always fun to be around (well, when she wasn't forcing the Slytherin girl to study) and always knew the right thing to say.
Marlene McKinnon, Alice Fortescue and Mary Macdonald were Lily's best friends, ones that welcomed Echo into their friend group with open arms (just like Lily had done years prior). The girls were all lovely, and whilst with them, Echo never felt out of place. Marlene was the fashionista, she always looked incredible with long golden locks that reached just past her ribs and the bluest eyes anyone had ever seen. Almost all the boys (and some girls) were crushing on her; Echo being one of them. At one point, the pair actually began dating secretly, before realising they were better off as friends.
Alice was extremely sweet. She always made sure everyone was okay and everyone felt like her friend. Her presence put most at ease. She started dating Frank Longbottom in their fifth year, the pair were probably the cutest couple in all of Hogwarts.
Mary was the quiet one. She was a Muggleborn witch, so she and Lily always made their own little references which ended up confusing the other three witches and usually led them to start explaining things for well over an hour (Muggle things were extremely confusing back then).
It pained Echo to know all the women that were important to her weren't there anymore. That they all died young and she would never be able to see them again. It hurt even more knowing that if she hadn't left, maybe she could've somehow helped save them, and if not, then she would at least have a few more memories with the girls.
With a frown on her face, Echo stood up from her chair as quietly as possible. Everyone around her was still in deep conversations and she was sure that no one spotted her as she exited the dining room, however she was wrong, Sirius' eyes had been glued on her from the very start. It was strange to see her so quiet and when he noticed the sadness in her eyes, he couldn't dare to look away. A look of worry etched upon his face.
