Safe.

Safe was one of the many words Keeley felt when she was with Jay and she couldn't quite explain it, but for some odd reason, Keeley felt safe. And it felt different than when she was with Daryl, Glenn, Carl. Even her father Rick.

Safe and comfort we're one of the many words floating in her head as she thought about the events of last night.

Jay moving over so Keeley could lay next to him instead of sleeping on the floor, then him asking her if he could put his arm over her. Then the night ended with Keeley intertwining their fingers together, which felt like the right thing to do at that exact moment for Keeley.

Keeley didn't know if this was how people who were together did things. Hell, she doesn't even know if she and Jay are dating since technically their first "date" was him lying in a bed in solitary, but even with everything going on Keeley liked what was happening between her and Jay.

She never experienced anything like this before and it felt nice.

Keeley was lightly awakened as she felt something on her forehead, but she didn't open her eyes. She didn't want to as she felt Jay's cold fingers move a couple of strands of her hair off of her forehead. His touch was soft and she just wanted to stay there, in his arms forever.

Jay knew Keeley was awake by now, he saw her eyelashes flutter a little when he touched her forehead. He didn't mean to wake her but he couldn't help it, she was the most beautiful human being he'd ever seen.

He had past relationships before but they were never serious, they always ended with mutual agreements and they really never affected him in a way but when his sister left him and his mom died, Jay shut down completely. He didn't think that he could feel anything after losing both of them but everything changed the day he met Keeley.

She made him feel again and she told him something and it stuck with him to this very day and he would never forget it.

Jay wanted to keep a mental picture of Keeley in his head so he just laid where he was, admiring her features and the tiny cut that was on her left eyebrow which had faded over the years, and the recent scar that was just at the base of her hairline.

"I know you're awake, " Jay said softly and Keeley started to blush as she opened her eyes.

"What are you doing weirdo." Keeley chuckled as Jay brought her hand up to his face.

"Looking, " Jay whispered as he traced the scars on her knuckles with his finger gently, scared that if he was too rough, they would reopen. And something about the way Jay was gentle with her scars made Keeley's heart flutter. He was one of the few people who didn't look at her with pity when she told him the truth. She felt like she can talk to him about anything without him judging her.
