Priscilla Campbell

I was about to pack my bag as my shift is over. It's almost 5 in the evening and it's my end time. My replacement was here. I walked out of my cabin to the front desk when my phone rang.

"What?" I said in an irritated tone.

"I'm sorry Priscilla" he said and I waited for him to speak. He sighed and came close to me. He held my hand as he looked into my eyes.

"I'm so sorry, I was struck in a meeting" he said. I looked at him, shaking my head. He should know that this is not the way to act.

"You could have answered my call. I freaking called you more than 40 times" u busted out throwing my hands in air. The lady at the reception desk stared at us and I instantly regretted it.

"Let's go" I pulled him to the basement to my car.

"I'm sorry again" he sighed and kissed my hand. What should I do now?

"Ok fine, promise me you won't repeat it again"

"Yes, I promise I won't bail on you like this again" he said sincerely.

"Even if you have emergency?" I raised my eyebrows.

"I'll inform you earlier" I nodded and he hugged me immediately. I was taken aback cause he never does that but again there is no one around, so I guess he did it.

"Let's go to your house, I want to meet your mom" he said releasing the hug.

"That..umm..she is .." he cut me off.

"I'll take care. Lead me the way" he got out of my car and walked to his car. I quickly started my car and drove to my house. On the way I called my mom.

"I'm coming home with Stephen" I said.

"So finally he decided to show up huh?" She taunted.

"Mom, you have to be nice. He's going to be my husband" I warned her.

"But is he's again being a dick, I'm not responsible then" I chuckled hearing her.

"Yeah ok"

"See you then" she hung up and I saw his car following me right behind. I quickly reached my house and parked my car. He parked his car right beside mine and got out. I waited for him and he held my hand as we walked in. My mom opened the door and her eyes instantly went to see our hands. She glared at him and he let my hand go.

"Come in"

"I'll go freshen up" I excused myself and went to my room. I hopped into a quick 2 minute shower and changed into normal clothes. Putting my work clothes in the laundry basket, I took my phone and went to the living room.

I saw Stephen sitting there silently looking down at the floor when my mom was looking like she was enjoying seeing him like this. I sat beside him and he loosened up a bit. He likes my mom but he says she's kind of intimidating.

"So where's my tea?" I asked to easy up the tension in the air. She immediately went to the kitchen and I turned to him. I hold his hand and pushed his chin up to look at me.

"Relax, she'll love you"

"No, I think that's difficult. She kept asking me about the reason I didn't show up in the afternoon and when I told her I was in the meeting she kept asking me questions about the meeting" he complained and I chuckled.

"Relax babe" I cupped his cheek and right then I heard someone clearing their throat. Way to go mom!

I had my tea and my mom and Stephen talked about the wedding. We discussed the venue, the shop from where we'll get our wedding dress and the flowers and stuff like that.

Everytime he would speak anything my mom would just glare at him to shut him. I eyed her to stop it but she ignored me.

"So I'll ask my parents to meet you at for dinner tomorrow Jeni" he said.

"It's Mrs. Campbell for you" she said coldly and he shook his head.

"Yes Mrs. Campbell"

"You better be there on time too" he nodded and quickly bid bye. My mom didn't even let me walk him to his car.

"Mom, what was that?" I asked as soon as he left.

"What?" She was playing innocent.

"You know what I'm talking about" I scoffed.

"I don't like him yet" I knew it.

"But at least consider him as my fiance mom"

"I will try" u can't believe this.

"I'll talk to your dad about the dinner tomorrow. Ask him to make the reservations" she said and went away. I went to my room and called him.

"Babe, I'm sorry" I apologized.

"It's ok, I'll get used to it. But I'm more scared for your fast" He met my mom only a couple of times but never met my dad.

"I'll be there with you, don't worry" he sighed and there was an awkward silence.

"Book the table reservation for tomorrow" I said.

"Yeah babe, I will"

"Ok then" I said.

"Babe, I'll call you after I reach home? I'm struck in traffic"

"Yeah sure, I ..." He cut the call and I looked at the phone disappointed.

I kept my phone away and started to finish my work. Later my dad came and we walked to him about the dinner and he said he can't wait to meet him. Hope everything goes well.

After dinner I returned to my bed and checked my phone completing forgetting that he would have called me. But to my disappointment there was no calls or messages from him.

Why do I always get disappointed?
