Chapter 18
Justin
I run into Luke as I walk out of the flower shop carrying a corsage for Tara in one hand and a couple of bouquets for Meg and Tara’s mom in the other.
Luke steps back, spotting me, then the flowers.
“For Tara?” he asks.
I nod. I’m happy. Really happy. I don’t tell Luke about last night. About Tara and the quarry. “Who are you taking to the dance?” I say instead.
“Haven’t decided yet.” He kicks the ground absently.
I laugh. “The dance is tomorrow, buddy. What about one of the many cheerleaders I’ve seen you flirting with lately?”
He shrugs. “Not everyone can be so lucky.”
He means me and Tara. I remember after Sam’s graduation party, when we were shooting hoops and I teased him about Tara. I wonder if he really did have a crush on her. I push the thought aside. It doesn’t matter. Tara and I would have found each other no matter what.
