E L E A N O R A
The crunching of dried leaves under my boot seemed strident compared to the deafening silence that surrounded me as I sprint through the woods. My breath came in short spurts and I could hear the drumming of my heart beating against my chest in my ears. I had to get out of here.
Picking up my pace even though my legs were practically screaming in protest, I risked a glance over my shoulder.
Coming to a halt, I stare at the empty space behind me in confusion. Gone was my pursuer, I was now alone in this deep, dark forest...or so I thought.
I startle at the loud snap of a branch behind me, letting out a yelp in surprise as I whirl around.
The hulking figure that belonged to the Adonis of a man that was hunting me down just seconds prior towered over me. His golden eyes glinted in the dark and the splash of moonlight cast upon us illuminated his silvery hair in such a way that it made it look as if it was glowing.
I stumble away from him, ready to make an escape. As soon as my foot meets the forest ground in my foiled attempt to flee, a pair of strong arms banded around my waist, lifting me up. For a moment, it felt as if I was flying and it was exhilarating, to say the least. But as they all say; what goes up must come down- and unfortunately for me, that's exactly what happens when he slams my body down.
His hand comes up to shield the back of my head just before it meets the ground, cushioning the blow. It was useless. It still hurt like hell.
"Fucking hell." I groan, "Would it kill you to be a little gentler?"
"You were the one who told me not to go easy on you. By the way, you're dead." He deadpans.
I wrinkle my nose at my friend- Gor, as I like to call him- before sticking out my tongue at him, "Hard-ass."
"You were the one who wanted me to train you."
He was right, I had been the one who requested that he trained me to hunt. Don't get me wrong, I could work a sword just fine. But hunting monsters? That was a whole other league on its own.
"Yes, I did. But that wasn't an invitation to carry out an attempt on my life."
He snorts, reaching down to help me to my feet as he murmurs, "Drama Queen."
I gasp theatrically, clutching at my chest. "You did not just call me that."
"You heard me. Suck it up, El."
I throw an arm around his shoulders as we begin to exit the forest- a little awkwardly, if I may add, considering he was a full head taller than I was- and threw my head back in laughter.
"You're no fun, Gor. No wonder Roach likes me better."
"She does not," I swear, he almost pouts.
"She so does." I rush forward as I spot the horse's silhouette up ahead. I take Roach's snout in my hands as I reach her, stroking it gently, "Don't you, Roachy? Aren't I your favourite?"
The horse nickers in response, nuzzling her face against mine.
I shoot Geralt a knowing look, "Told you so."
