E L E A N O R A
"Finley!" I call as my new gigantic dog speeds through the forest. After much consideration, I settled on the name Finley (Fin for short) just because I thought it sounded cute. Gor on the other hand is still warming up to the idea that we now have Roach and Finley.
Finley pauses, turning to glance at me before letting out a bark and continuing to trudge through the woods.
"I'm going to go get him," I tell Gor, before starting to follow after Finley.
"Why? It'll probably come back on its own." Gor replies, bent over the river in search for god-knows-what.
"It is a he, Gor." I roll my eyes at him.
Geralt grunts in reply, "Stay close."
"I'll be fine." I insist, "I'll be back so soon you won't even know I was gone."
"Except you just told me you'll be gone." He grumbles behind me as I hop over a fallen log in search of Finley.
"Smart-ass," I mumble even though I was probably already too far for him to hear me.
Sunlight was still pouring through, illuminating the woods. Finley was now just a small figure in the distance, happily roaming the woods with his tongue sticking out the side of his mouth.
He darts forward behind a large tree, disappearing out of my sight. "Fin?" I call. That's when his insistent barking starts.
It echos through the woods, occasionally stopping when he growls at whatever he sees.
I rush forward, the air around me suddenly feeling chillier than before. Wrapping my arms around myself as I come to a stop behind Finley, I finally see what he's barking at.
A tall, shadowy figure looms before us, it's bright red eyes are slitted like ones of a cat and staring right at us. If I didn't know any better, I'd say the devil itself was in our presence. Actually...I suppose that it wouldn't be too unbelievable, considering that vampires and werewolves exist.
"Finley..." I mutter, "Come on, boy. Let's go."
I slowly start to retreat, hoping that this monster- whatever the fuck it is- leaves us alone.
Trying to stay as calm as possible, I take another step back with Finley standing protectively in front of me trying to ward it away.
Somehow, he still manages to bark at the creature while he follows as I back away.
I creep back, bit by bit, making sure to keep Finley close. Thankfully, the creature seems to be staying put so far, though it's haunting gaze is still stuck on Finley and me.
My heart drops as a loud snap of a branch sounds through the woods when I take my next step. I look up at the monster and its eyes bore into mine as if it's trying to steal a glimpse of my soul.
A moment passes where we're all at a standstill. Then, the monster lunges at me. Without missing a beat, I take off running, grabbing Finley by the back of his neck, having had nowhere else to grab onto.
