Why Can't It Be?
Chapter 5: It Might Be You

(><) FLASHBACK 3 YEARS AGO (><)

Semi's POV

Volleyball practice went on as usual. I should really practice more. This is my last year, and I want to compete to the finals.

Walking by the vending machine to buy some energy drink, I saw Y/N on the way to the gymnasium.

"Hey Y/N, where are you going?"

"Semi-kun! I was looking all over for you. I have great news for you. I want you to be the first to know." Y/N smiled happily.

"What is it?"

"I GOT IN!!" Y/N was shrieking excitedly. She got in our cheerleading club.

"Of course, you would. Have you no faith with your skills? With your amazing talent, who wouldn't get you? You did very well in your tryouts." I replied.

"Nee, Semi-kun. Uhm. W-would you mind celebrating later?" Y/N asked shyly.

"Of course, why not? Meet me 15mins after 7pm later after practice."

Y/N nodded. "I'll see you then!"

Y/N's POV

"Ohayou." I greeted Semi casually.

He nodded and smiled. "Ohayou."

I saw two bentou's prepared at his side, and one for mine. I was about to ask Semi if he has volleyball practice, but he already knew what to say.

"Want to watch our practice? Just like the usual?"

I gleamed. "Hai! Uhm. Ano ne, Onii-chan. Uhm." I stuttered.

"Y/N, don't worry. I'm still here for you. We'll talk when the right time comes. Sit and have some breakfast. We'll leave soon."

I was about to say something when my Dad and Semi's Mom arrived at the dining table.

"Y/N-chan, good to have you back. We've missed you. At long last, the family is together again." Semi's Mom hugged me tightly.

"Okaa-sama, ohayou gozaimasu. Otou-sama too." I kissed them both in the cheeks.

"We're leaving for school. We'll be staying at the dormitories since Inter-High Preliminaries are just around the corner. We won't be home anytime soon." Semi intruded immediately. I was shocked with Semi's sudden intrusion. Though I know he's not the kind of guy who likes to do family gatherings and all.

"We know, so both of you, do your best." My Dad open his arms widely and hugged me as well.

"Ittekimasu." I waved goodbye to our parents, and Semi gave his Mom a kiss on the cheek and bowed to my Dad.

Semi's POV

I never liked family gatherings and all. Not even wanting to eat a meal together.

I don't even know when I started feeling this way.

Or maybe I just don't like the idea of us being a family together.

It may have been 3 years since then but still, it doesn't work this way though.

Or maybe because my feelings for Y/N were suddenly suppressed by our parent's instant marriage.

(><) FLASHBACK 3 YEARS AGO (><)

Semi's POV

I wanted to confess my feelings for Y/N. I wanted her to know what I truly feel. Even if she rejects me or won't accept my feelings for her, I still want to do it. I can't take this kind of emotions anymore.

I know. I am ready.

Y/N and I were walking downtown. We were on our way home. Being with her makes me feel at ease. Makes me feel secured, and most importantly, she makes me happy. I am happy.

It's been 5 years since my father left us for another woman.

He had been cheating with my Mom for almost 2 years by then.

We had a hard time coping up, especially for my Mom, up until they settled their divorce.

I wanted her to move on and focus on her job.

I wanted also to be successful so that I would give her a better life.

That's why I told myself, I would never be like my father.

This may sound stupid, but I know Y/N is the one for me. I just know it. That gut-feeling you've been hiding within yourself.

I don't know how to start our conversation. It's been half of the semester since Y/N moved here from Kagoshima. I've never been close to any girls from school. Whether it may be my classmates or friends of friends. Y/N is the first one that I've opened up to with.

We've shared a lot of secrets that none of our friends knew as well. Both of our parents are divorcées. My Dad left us, her Mom left them. That's one of the reasons why they moved here in Miyagi from Kagoshima. I know, quite far don't you think?

I gathered all of my courage to ask her out. "Hey Y/N. Uhm. D-do you have cheerleading club practice this Saturday?"

"Hmm?" She looked at me with those eyes. Those gleaming eyes. I often wonder what is she thinking with those eyes. "None. We're taking a break this week. Why? Are we going somewhere?" She smiled.

"I was thinking if you want to go with me, and spend the day together. Besides, summer vacation is almost over. We'll be back at school in no time. So. Soooo, if you'd like to go and visit the Sairi Lantern Illumination Festival." I can't help but stutter.

Y/N stared at me for a few seconds. I just stared at her as well. Then she smiled. "Looks like a plan."

YES!!! I thought to myself. I'm grabbing that chance to confess to her.

(*^ω^*) PRESENT TIME (*^ω^*)

Y/N's POV

"Wakatoshi! Am I out being your manager?" I just abruptly asked Ushijima.

"Hey Y/N. What the hell?" Semi was astounded by my question.

"Of course, you're still our Manager. H/N is just filling in your place. We all know that. But if you're okay with it, why not both of you be our manager? Since we're already seniors, you could turn it over after the school year." Ushijima answered.

Being as stubborn as a stone, I demanded to be back as the volleyball club manager.

H/N was looking my way and she was going to say something, but I immediately cut her off.

"It's okay. I-" H/N inserted.

"I'm taking back what's mine at the first place." I answered back, and flipped my hair as I turned my back from the boys.

From afar, Coach Washijo was just looking at me.
