Why Can't It Be?
Chapter 4: FOR THE FIRST TIME

Semi's POV

I know that Y/N wanted to talk to me, I can see it in her eyes.

We arrived at the manor, and no words came out of Y/N's mouth. She just told our butler that she won't be having dinner anymore.

I decided to reach out to her and kept on knocking outside her door.

"Just go, Onii-chan." Having hearing her call me that, made my heart ache.
Now I know why I can't have those intertwined feelings for her.

I immediately stopped knocking and went away from her room.
I lied down in my bed thinking about H/N. What if I confessed to her earlier?
Would things turn out differently?
I must admit, I'm really curious who's the mystery guy.
Doesn't seem like that he goes to Shiratorizawa though.
Maybe he's from another school? As far as I know, H/N doesn't have any friends here before she moved. Who could it be? Hmmm.

As I kept on thinking about H/N, Y/N keeps on bugging me as well.
I don't understand what I'm feeling right now.
Even if they're my own, it scares the hell out of me.

~FLASHBACK 3 YEARS AGO~

Finally, last year in middle school. I'd still continue playing volleyball. But for what school?
Mom told me that if I still want to continue playing, I'd go for Shiratorizawa.
Well, why not? That's one of the top powerhouse school in the prefecture.

I've been playing volleyball since grade school, and it helped me a lot to forget my family problems.
Though I admit I nearly gave up playing especially when Dad left us.
It gave us a hard time, especially for my Mom.

Since it's my last year in middle school, I'd really give my best with my studies and volleyball as well.

"Everyone please settle down. I'd like to introduce someone to the whole class." Nakamura-sensei said as she entered our classroom with a transfer student. "Would you please come forward and introduce yourself?"

"Konnichiwa everyone. I am L/N Y/N, from Kagoshima. My family just recently moved here in Miyagi. It's nice to meet you all. I hope we'd get along."

That's the first time I met Y/N. She has the purest smile I've ever seen. What a blissful view. She's just like a rainbow after the gloomy rain.

"Semi-san, since you're the Class President, kindly guide Y/N around here at the campus, as well to accompany her when she needs help."

I was mesmerized that I just nodded to what Nakamura-sensei said.

Y/N bowed down and smiled before she sat down at the empty chair in front of me. I can feel the adrenalin rush running in my body from head to toe.

Classes went on that fast.
Y/N was still sitting down on her chair.

It felt like that she wants to say something but she's rather shy to do it.

"What's up, Y/N? Any thoughts?" It was quite an impulsive move.

"Can I call you Semi-kun?" WOAAAHHH. Damn. I just felt my heart skipped a beat.
I blankly looked at her, and fireworks of thoughts are going through my mind.
But also I realized that I literally don't know how I looked for her.
Maybe I looked like crazy or a madman in front of her.

"Sure, why not? You could call me just Semi."

Y/N grinned. This gives another damn reaction. What the hell is this that I'm feeling?

"Do you have club activities? I wanted to check the club activities here. If you don't mind accompanying me though?"

Of course I have volleyball practice. But one day of missed practice won't hurt. This is once in a lifetime opportunity. So I decided to lie.

I was about to answer when Y/N shyly said "I'm sorry. You must be busy."

"No, it's okay. I'm not really busy."

We were walking along the corridors, I wanted to break the silence between us, that I spontaneously asked her, "Did you join ang club activities back in Kagoshima?"

Y/N took long before she answered. "Yes, I was in our cheerleading club. I wasn about to be the captain but sadly we need to move here."

There was a sudden crack in her voice. As much as I want to ask more, it gave me a feeling that I shouldn't continue. Maybe one day we'd get to talk about it.

We checked all the club activities offered here at school, but it doesn't seem that she found something interesting for her taste.

"Semi-kun, you're in the volleyball team right?" I don't why I was hesitant to answer but she continued. "That's good to hear, knowing that you have something worthwhile doing for."

I was petrified to answer. I wanted to answer her questions. I wanted to ask her some questions. But why the words don't seem to come out from my mouth?

"Well thank you for your time Semi-kun. See you tomorrow." Y/N waved goodbye to me.
"I'll see you then." I replied.

Behind those pure smiles, hides the sorrowful eyes.

What's wrong, Y/N?
