The next morning was grey and signaled that Forks' sunny days were coming to an end. It had Talia wanting to make a cup of hot chocolate and watch Dracula, but the doorbell changed her plans.

She looked out her bedroom window and saw a rain jacket-wearing Jason waiting on the porch. She took a few minutes as she heard Edmund's voice echo upstairs. She listened as Edmund ushered Jason into the house and they continued to speak on the issues going on.

He hadn't chosen to not see her again, she thought as she brushed her hair, teeth and put on a little bit of makeup.

Downstairs Jason was in the kitchen with Edmund holding two coffee cups at chatting while her grandfather made breakfast. His head turned away as Talia entered the kitchen.

She gestured towards the interaction. "You guys getting along okay?"

A huge grin split Edmund's face. "I don't run them off as your father would,"

She pursed her lips. "You ran off that one boy." she paused to think of a name but came up with nothing.

Strange.

"That boy turned out to be just like I thought he would be," he handed her a plate of eggs and toast. "Your mother is over in Seattle dealing with Estate and court stuff so you'll need to be on your best behavior,"

Jason handed her one of the cups. "I was telling Edmund about the plans I had for us today,"

She was intrigued. She'd thought he would have run after last night's events. Clearly, this was something he'd planned after she'd left last night.

"And I told him that with a killer on the loose it would be best if you guys went to populated areas," Edmund said opening a beer.

"Isn't it too early for that?" Talia asked.

"Not on my day off," he gave her a wink.

"I was planning on Ruby beach," Jason shrugged. "It should be overpopulated with the closures on the res,"

Edmund shook his head and tipped back the beer bottle. "Just keep out of the water and its reach,"

The last month of deaths had gotten to Edmund in a way she'd never seen him react before. He'd gotten more protective. Asking her where she was going, who with, what building. She had almost reacted in the way she once didn't with her parents on their rare parenting nights but knew he was just being Edmund. Grandfather/ father figure she always had.

"That's the plan," he sipped on his drink and rapped his fingers on the countertop.

"Be back by three sharp," he grabbed his newspaper and opened it. "Any later and Petty will be alerted,"

She rolled her eyes and grabbed Jason's hand and pulled him out of the house before Edmund could change his mind.

While he opened the passenger door. she thought about last night's events and how the tension between them had evaporated. And realized that---- after last night------ a big chunk of Jason's barrier was gone. She knew it had been a bigger reason for his coldness, but this had been a different Jason. Sociable.

"You didn't vanish," she said.

She waited while Jason buckled in and turned on the truck.

"I wouldn't vanish after that," he said putting the truck in reverse.

"Edward did when he thought who he was would be too much of a threat for..." she trailed off. Her meaning was clear. He was the danger and she was the stupid lamb.
