➰Chapter XXXI➰

"So what do you think? Green or yellow?" Leah asked, raising a couple of baby onesies towards Clary.

"Why can't it be blue? Or pink?"

"That's what everyone gets their babies, based on ridiculous rules laid out by society that give colors genders. Besides, I like yellow."

"Then get the yellow one."

"But what if the green one will fit the baby better? Besides, I've already got the green little socks, and if I get the yellow onesie they won't match and--"

"By the Angel, Leah, it's just a onesie," Clary rolled her eyes with exasperation. "If I had known how much of a pain in the ass you'd be, I wouldn't have agreed to come with you to get the stuff for the baby."

"I can't help it, alright? I'm dealing with three trimesters' worth of hormones in a matter of days. Also, I have so much stuff to read about how to properly take care of a baby, and I have no idea of what to expect when I go into labor and..."

"Leah, look at me," Clary put her hands on her shoulders and stared into her eyes softly. "Take a deep breath and calm down."

"It's easy for you to say! I'm terrified, alright? I had only barely begun to wrap my head around the fact that I'm going to be a mom when our insane nephew sped up everything and now I might push out a child any second!"

"Oh, shut up. You've dealt with far worse."

"Worse than pushing out a creature the size of a melon through an opening the size of a walnut?"

"Leah, you were tortured by Valentine, thrown off a building by Jace, brainwashed by Angel Raziel and burned alive by Heavenly Fire."

"I guess so, but having a baby somehow feels scarier than that," Leah sighed heavily. "God, Clary. What the Hell am I going to do?"

"Well, for starters, you need to get a grip on yourself and focus on the important things. You're having a baby, and sure, you had less time than expected to prepare, but it would happen eventually. Besides, you're Leah freaking Rollins. You can do anything."

"Please, don't leave me when I go into labor. I want you and Izzy in that emergency room, alright?"

"Why me and Izzy? Why not Jace?"

"He's come around, thankfully, but I honestly don't trust that he won't pass out before I give birth," Leah admitted, making Clary laugh.

Honestly, she was glad to have Clary here. Ideally, she would've liked to have Isabelle here as well, as the two of them always knew how to make her feel the most confident she has ever been, but Isabelle had some Institute business to attend to, so she came only with Clary. Thankfully, Clary was proving to be more than enough support, even though she still felt absolutely terrified of having a baby.

"Oh, shit. They come in different sizes. How am I supposed to guess an unborn person's size?"

Before Clary could reply, they were surprised to see Magnus walking towards them, having appeared from seemingly nowhere. "They are organized by age. Although, don't be surprised if the clothes don't fit perfectly, some babies are born slightly bigger or smaller."

"Magnus. What are you doing here?"

"I may have asked Jace where you were," Magnus admitted, making Leah raise an eyebrow.

"Really? Do you need something or...?"

"I... I wanted to apologize to you, Leah," Magnus said, making her widen her eyes in surprise. She was definitely not expecting to hear that. "I had absolutely no right to speak to you like that. I offended you for no valid reason, and worst of all, I made you feel like I don't care about you."
