Chapter 9

Luther set Five down on the small bed and Diego placed Delores on a chair close by. Alice sat down beside Five on the bed as she leaned on the wall that had some posters on it.

"Funny if I didn't know he was such a prick. I'd say he looks adorable in his sleep, " Diego said, looking at Five.

'Isn't he already?'

Alice thought slightly smiling down at Five, "Well, don't worry he'll sober up eventually. Be back to his normal, unpleasant self" Luther said.

"Yeah, I can't wait for that long. I need to find his connection with those lunatics. Before someone else dies" Diego said, "All those things he said before, what do you think it meant?" Luther said.

While the two were talking Alice was sitting beside Five humming out a tune. She was playing with his hair which helped Five out with the nightmares. Alice used to hum it to her little brother to help him sleep during some nights. The memory placed a small smile on her face.

Alice got tired eventually and fell asleep beside Five.

Alice woke up a few hours later to the sound of people talking.

"What do you mean?" Luther asked, Five just looked down at his feet now Alice realized what they were talking about. "I found all of you, your bodies," Five said, Alice could see the guilt in his eyes and she placed her hand on his shoulder offering a small kind of comfort.

Five glanced at Alice and smiled softly for a second before turning back to Luther. "Horribly, you were all together trying to stop whatever it was that ended the world" Five said, Luther turned his head at Five "Wait how do you know that?" Luther asked.

Five pulled out the glass eye out of his pocket, it was wrapped by a cloth. "This was clenched in your dead hand when I found you" Five said, throwing the glass eye at Luther who caught it. "Must've ripped it out of their head right before you went down" Five said, Luther examined the eye.

"Whose head?" Five just shook his head.

"Like I said I don't know" Luther saw the serial number on the back and said "Well, there's a serial number on the back. Think maybe we could try-"

"No that's a dead end, just another hunk of glass" Five chuckled, Luther gave the eye back to Five. A couple of seconds later Diego slammed the door open "You piece of shit!" he yelled walking right up to Five.

"Do you have any idea what you just did?!" he was probably about to strangle Five if it hadn't been for Luther. "Let me- Get your ape hands off of me!" Diego grunted struggling to get out of Luther's grasp.

"I can do this as long as it takes, until you calm down," Luther said.

"Fine" Diego painted Luther let Diego go. Alice could only watch the two brothers bicker as she sat on the small bed.

"Now, wanna tell us what you're talking about?" Luther said. "Our brother's been pretty busy since he got back" Diego said looking at Five. "He was in the middle of that shootout at Griddy's, and then Gimble Brothers after the guys in masks attacked the academy, looking for him," Diego said, pointing at Five.

Alice tugged Five's sleeve to get his attention, Five glanced at her signaling that she got his attention. "He just lost his kinda girlfriend Detective Patch who was killed by-"Alice lost her voice again.

"By your co-workers" she said since she can't specifically say who it is. Five nodded at the information and turned to Diego "Who are they Five?" Luther asked. "They work for my former employer," Five said, beginning to explain his side.

"A woman called the Handler, she sent them to stop me. Then as soon as Detective Patch got in their way, well fair game" Diego was confused at how Five knew that they killed Patch but he was too angry to ask more questions.

"And now they're my fair game, and I'm gonna see to it that they pay," Diego said, running off to find the two assassins. Five tried to warn him not to go but Diego was stubborn and slammed the door closed while walking out. Alice just sighed at the stubborn Diego but couldn't blame him since he had just lost his 'friend'.

"Is he always that stubborn? Even before?" she said, Five just nodded rolling his eyes on his brother's stupidity.

" 'Former employer' ? What's this really about Five, and don't give me any of this 'It's none of your business' crap alright?" Luther said "Well it's a long story..." Five said.
