We stood in bed that morning without saying anything to each other. She stared at the ceiling, blinking from time to time. She was unhappy and I was the cause.
''I'm not working today. Let's have a picnic.''
''It's too cold,'' she whispered.
''We'll have a picnic in the living room. We can watch a movie.''
She stood up and dressed in leggings.
''I'm going for a jog,'' she spilled the words, slamming the door. I must have stood there for maybe an hour, until Ii got angry and sat up to have breakfast. She came back after an hour and a half.
''So it;s too cold for a pic nic but not for a jog huh?''
''Yeah.''
''Amara, it's literally raining.''
''Yeah.''
That morning I cried. I stood alone at the table in the kitchen and cried my eyes out. She was standing there, in the bedroom, watching Gumball in Finnsih and eating pomegranate on my white sheets. I left her alone and went to the hotel I payed Nikolas to stay at and spent hours and hours with him.
''Why is she like that? Was she like that with you?''
''I don't know Pelle, we didn't talk much. She might not be happy.''
''Why? I do everything she ever wanted me to.''
''Maybe you should talk with her about that, dude.''
''Yeah, I... I guess I will. Is you appartament ok? Are they fixing the pipes?''
''Pipes?''
''Yes...the flood?''
''Ah, yes, it's nearly ready. I'll move back on thursday.''
Before I left, I sat in the doorway, clenching my fists in the hotel wall.
''If you touched her, Nikolas, I'm killing you both and then myself.''
