Full Moon
"What does Theo like?" My eyes scanned the miscellaneous display tables. "Besides drugs, alcohol, and nicotine."
"Destruction," Draco stood tall as he scanned the table in front of him, scattered with small multi-coloured objects. He smiled to himself as if a memory catapulted its way to the forefront of his mind, but a memory for only him. "But let's opt for something of a different nature." With his hands tucked meticulously behind his back, he lowered himself to examine a toy that caught his eye. I watched as his back rose and contracted with his lungs, and with unchanging elegance, his gaze dragged to meet mine. Before I could register the brow-quirked-perplexion, he blinked and returned his eyes to the playthings laid in front of him.
Then it hit me, I had been smirking at the top of his head; which he had noticed. I blinked away the flushed heat creeping up my neck and floated over to a display further from Malfoy. This one resembles a three-tier cake with how the baskets are stacked, each basket holding something different. My gaze traced the outlines of many shelves and baskets, attempting to distract from my partner in action.
Little did I know, I was looking in the direction of a new shipment of love potions Zonko received today. "Not quite satiated with your love potion affairs, Lewis?" His words slipped into my ears with sinister motives.
My neck warmed as a result of his words. I looked down at my shoes as I attempted to choke down the nerves that filled my mouth. The shelf in front of me came back into view, "Not for me. Maybe Theo will have a better chance at desirable results."
Draco huffed a chuckle behind me that caused me to turn to witness his expression. His face was painted with a smirk that had him playfully shaking his head at the ground. "Unlikely, I'd like to see him try nonetheless. He does have a tendency with struggling to follow in my footsteps." His eyes met mine once again, and a blush burned on my face. "Besides, I'm sure he'd enjoy this much more." He held up a black tinted pouch that hung lazily from his index finger.
My hand instinctively rose to grasp the pouch to read the label. Peruvian Instant Darkness Powder. "What is it?"
"Those who desire to make a quick escape." He shrugged.
I felt my eyes squint with a smile, "Sounds like a perfect gift for Theo."
"I'll have Zonko put it on the Malfoy account, anything else?" His statement felt almost natural, with the way the words slipped from his tongue as if we'd been this way for years.
I shook my head to confirm my desire and wandered into the shelves to pass the time as Draco completed the transaction. Zonko had an expansive collection of products alphabetized and colour coded. The tips of my fingers had just grazed past a shelf of magenta stones and crystals when light reflecting off one caught my eye. It was a moonstone, unlike the muggle one, wizarding moonstones change shape with the phase of the moon. The stone was in the shape of a circle to reflect the halfway point of the cycle.
"Something caught your eye?"
My head snapped to face Draco who was leaning against the shelves. "Just browsing," I tell him.
"I thought we could make a quick trip into Honeydukes." He swung the small paper bag around his index finger. "What'd'you think?"
I answered with a simple nod and in a quick moment, we were back on the streets of Hogsmeade. It was refreshing, seeing the village of Hogsmeade merely desolate without the students of Hogwarts occupying it. The autumn air was crisp and comforting, while the leaves crushing under our shoes echoed between the shops on the main road. Contentment filled the void between us, and the everlasting knot in my chest softened in his presence. I plucked a cigarette out from the inner pocket of my cloak and lit it with my wand. Allowing the smoke to warm my body.
