Cuts and Bruises

Theo grabbed a dark long-sleeved shirt from his cupboard and slipped it on. That's all he ever wore, long sleeve shirts and jeans. Even in the summer, long sleeves. His mother took notice but never commented.

Theo slowly lifted up his sleeve when he was sure nobody was around. His arm had 2 rather large bruises and 1 small one. A few minor cuts surrounded them.

Theo grabbed a nearby bandaid to cover up the cuts. He placed it on gently, wincing slightly at the small tinge of pain.

His door suddenly burst open and swung in his direction. He frantically grabbed his sleeve and pulled it down.

His little sister, Alexis, poked her head from the other side of the door. Theo couldn't help but smile. Alexis was the one thing he could count on to make his day better.

Alexis smiled back a him. "Hey big bro!" She squealed. Alexis was only 6 but she had a heart of gold.

"Hey Lexi!" He laughed and puller her into his room, closing the door behind her. Alexis noticed his cupboard was open. She climbed up to where his shirts were. He had 7 long sleeve shirts and 4 hoodies.

"Be careful!" Theo cried as Alexis wobbled slightly. "I'm okay!" She replied. She peered up to his hoodies and pulled one off the hangar, but she lost her footing and fell backwards onto the bed with a loud

THUD

This made a shiver shoot up Theos spine. 'Why?' He thought. He ignored the shiver and made sure Alexis was okay. She was clutching the hoodie, "I'm okay!" She giggled again.

She threw the hoodie over her head and smiled. The hoodie was black with the word LOVE stitched in white in the corner. It covered Alexis from head to toe, and she could no longer see her arms or hands.

Theo laughed at the sight of his little sister. "You can keep it if you want." He said. A massive smile exploded across Lexi's face. She ran up to Theo and hugged him tightly. "Thank you!" She squealed. Theo hugged her back.

As Alexis was letting go, she accidentally brushed her hand over one of the cuts on his arm. He flinched and grabbed his arm. "Oh no, are you okay?" She patted his leg. Another shiver went down his spine. It gave him chills. "I'm okay, why don't you go see what Mom is doing?" He said as he opened his bedroom door. "Okay!" Lexi smiled and ran off in her new hoodie.

Theo softly shut the door and breathed in. He collapsed onto his bed, exhausted and confused. What was that feeling, and why did it occur at such random times? 

He breathed out.
