Chapter 45
Nicole’s POV
Harry took my hand as we walked back down the path, back to where we started from. He’s just as quiet now as he was when we were walking up the path. I wanted to know why he wasn’t talking right now, but I didn’t ask. I let the silence of the nature surround us, watching Harry as he occasionally looked back to make sure as I was still had the same pace and hadn’t fallen behind him too much.
Once we had gotten back to the campus area, we decided to head in the direction of the bus stop because I knew a small pizza place that was just a few stops away from here. Luckily we didn’t have to wait long at the bus stop because only a few minutes after we got there, the bus was pulling up.
By the time we got off the bus and walked down to the pizza place, Harry seemed to be back to his normal mood. He was making jokes about how I had almost fallen into the stream a couple of times and he also made a few comments about me kissing his chest, but I ignored those. Since all we had both had today was a cup of coffee each, we were both starving, so we ordered a large pepperoni pizza and sipped on our sodas as we waited for it to arrive.
I resisted the urge to ask him if he wanted to maybe call his mom right now and talk to her. I think that he told me his mom was going to call him when she had her schedule figured out, or he told me that he was going to call her tonight. I didn’t remember, but either way I was pretty sure that he was going to contact her at some point today or probably tomorrow.
I knew that I was probably annoying him with my constant asking but I honestly couldn’t help it. I really wanted him to get in contact with her because he seemed to be insecure about the negative feelings that he thinks his mom has towards him. I believe that she may not always be content with his behavior and choices, but I know that she has to miss him and want to see him. Which is why at first I wasn’t even sure if Harry had attempted to contact her and ask her what she wanted to do for the break.
I felt like he wasn’t excited or really looking forward to the possibility of his mom coming if what he’s telling me is true. Maybe he’ll be excited when he actually knows for sure that she’s coming. The more I thought about it all, the more questions I wanted to ask him and the more things I wanted to say which is why I was relieved when our pizza was finally placed in front of us, distracting me from anything else and Harry and I’s attention more focused on devouring the pizza in front of us.
Harry and I each ate one half of the pizza and finished off our sodas as Harry demanded he pay for the meal when the waitress came back with the check. I decided not to protest his want to pay and after he did so, we both walked out of the restaurant.
“So now what?” Harry asked me as we walked down the sidewalk.
“I don’t know,” I shrugged.
“You’re the one who always stays here during the break so you’re in charge,” he told me.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea it that’s what you’re going by because I usually sit in my dorm and do school work when I’m on campus during this week,” I said to him.
“Boring,” he said, as he always did when I would mention schoolwork.
We ended up walking by a bowling alley so we went in to fulfill Harry’s wish of doing some cliché date activity over the break.
“I can’t believe that guy was flirting with you right in front of me,” Harry grumbled as we walked away from the counter with the bowling shoes.
“He was not,” I told him, holding back my laughs. “He was to,” Harry countered back.
“Just drop it Harry,” I said, finally letting a laugh out from his jealous state.
He rolled his eyes at me and went to the rack to get two bowling balls while I punched our names into the screen to start the game. I took this opportunity to mess with him, misspelling his name as I typed it in and quickly hitting the start button before he got back so he couldn’t change it.
“I hope you did that on purpose or else that’s disappointing that you don’t know how to spell my name,” I heard Harry say from behind me and I watch as he set down a red bowling ball and a blue one.
I just grinned and him and said, “You’re up first,” and then went to sit down on one of the chairs.
What started out as just a friendly cliché bowling game was now starting to get pretty intense about half way into the game. I never knew how competitive Harry was, how determined he seemed to be to win.
Most of the game was us have a playful banter back and forth about how we knew we were going to win and the other was going to lose. Harry was on his second throw of his turn right now and he held the next to his face, concentrating on how he was going to hit the remaining pins that were completely apart from each other. I was beating Harry right now and if he hit those two pins it would give him a spare and he would catch up more.
“Don’t mess up,” I called out to him.
“Please babe, I got this,” he said with a smug smile and finally reached his arm back and threw the ball out onto the lane.
I began laughing when the bowling ball failed to even hit one of the bowling pins. He just glared at me as he walked back over to his seat.
“Just so you know, I won’t think less of you when you lose,” I told him as I stood.
“Same thing applies for me when you lose,” he countered back and I rolled my eyes at him before walking over to pick up a bowling ball.
After the endless bantering and teasing when one of us messed up, the game finally was over, Harry losing by three points. Harry of course was pouting the whole time as we put the bowling balls back on the rack and returned our shoes.
“Do you want me to go buy you some ice cream to make you feel better?” I teased as we walked out of the bowling alley.
He turned to look at me and nodded like a little kid and then let a smile take over the pout on his face as he wrap his arm around me and pulled me closer to him.
