"Ok you know what" I mumbled, getting off Liam's lap. "I don't know what's going on, so until someone wants to tell me, I'll be upstairs" I sased as I turned on my heel and marched halfway up the stairs. When the boys assumed I was out of ear shot, they began a discussion.
"Liam you have to tell her" Louis pleaded. "She's gonna find out eventually" he added. Instantly I was confused and didn't like that Liam was keeping things from me, especially since we just got engaged.
"It's better you tell her now so she doesn't get mad when she finds out by herself" someone mumbled, obviously unaware that I was eavesdropping.
"I just don't want her to worry" Liam finally spoke. A small smile tugged at my lips knowing he only wanted to protect me. The smile faced quickly when Zayn lashed out the truth.
"Liam who wouldn't worry about this?!" He shouted. "Someone's trying to kill you" he emphasized. You have to hide anyway and she's going to get suspicious so just tell her!!" snapped, frustrated by the situation.
My eyes widened and lips parted in disbelief. His words seemed to repeat in my head over and over again as I stood there, behind the wall, helplessly. Tears threatened to spill from my eyes as I stepped out from my cover. I could hear the air being sucked out of the room as the five boys sat with their mouths agape, staring at me like they had seen a ghost.
"Liam..." I whispered trying not to cry. I didn't want to freak out on his since I didn't know the whole story, but my nerves seemed to get the better of me.
"Ariella let me explain" he said getting up. His face had gone sheet white as he stared at me anxiously.
"Liam someone's trying to kill you and you weren't going to tell me??" I snapped, letting a little frustration out. I wasn't sure if I was more angry that he didn't tell me, shocked at the actual news, or afraid that is was true. I guess I wasn't mad a Liam, but I couldn't let him get away with not telling me that easily.
"Baby I was going to tell you I swear, but I didn't want you to worry" he pleaded, reaching for my arm.
"So you were gonna let me wake up one day to an empty bed?? You don't think I'd be more worried then?" I sassed, folding my arms across my chest. He was silent for a moment, trying to find words.
"Is this really how you want to start off our engagement?" I whispered through a shaky voice. It didn't click that the boys were still in the sofa, exchanging looks of discomfort.
"Pleas Ari don't do this" he begged. "I was going to tell you" he replied honestly. "And c'mon you can't be mad at me for this! It's not my fault someone wants to kill me!" He retorted, his voice a little louder than I expected.
"I'm not mad, I just don't want to lose you" I choked out. Feeling slightly embarrassed, I turned on my heel and quickly ran upstairs, where I finally let the tears fall.
Liam's pov
"I'm not mad, I just don't want to lose you" she choked out before running upstairs in tears.
Her words meant a lot to know all she wanted was my safety."I'm such an idiot for not telling her" I muttered, slapping my hand on the kitchen table. My sudden outburst caused the four boys to jump. They exchanged glances but said nothing.
I heard a few whispers and then Harry stood up. "I think we'll give you two some time" he said walking towards the door with the others following close behind.
I didn't say anything, and then I felt a hand in my shoulder. "She really loves you, and just doesn't want to see you get hurt" Louis's voice sighted me. "Imagine if you were her," he began. "You'd feel the same way. If anyone tried to lay a hand on her you'd want to be there to protect her. That's all she wants for you" Louis said patting my back before following the others to their cars.
I knew Louis was right, which is why I had to apologize. Taking a deep breath, I locked the front door and turned the kitchen light out after grabbing a bottle of champagne from the case along with two glasses.
I composed myself as I walked up to our shared bedroom. Knocking lightly before opening the door, I found Ariella was sitting on the edge of the bed wearing my sweatpants and tee shirt. She turned to face me and her eyes watered.
I opened my mouth to speak but she let a few tears slip from her eyes which took the words away from me. I walked quickly to her and bent down before her.
"Hey hey it's ok baby don't cry" I cooed wiping her tears away. I set the glass on the far while she took small shaky breaths and looked me in the eyes. We both stood up at the same time and I pulled her into a tight embrace. I wrapped my arms around her tiny shivering frame and let her cry into my chest.
Once I felt her breathing even, I scooped her up and swiftly laid her down in bed. She curled up next to me and I pulled her in close, never wanting to let go.
"Everything will be okay" I assured her, "I promise" I mumbled, kissing the top of her head. Minutes passed of us just laying there in each other's arms before she suddenly sat up. Her eyes scanned the room and landed on the bottle of wine and two glasses on the nightstand. With a smirk, she reached over me and swiftly grabbed all three items.
"Now let's toast" she said, popping the top of the bottle open and pouring a glance for myself. "Here's to our engagement" she said raising her glass, "and a beautiful happy life together." I looked into her glimmering eyes and smiled as I clinked my glass to hers.
"Cheers"
