It had felt like it had been forever since I'd been in Los Angeles but at the same time it felt like I was here yesterday. The management team gave me two weeks in quarantine and I felt like I had been getting COVID tests left, right and centre.
When my two weeks were up, I had to head to the studio immediately. The only thing I was told was that there was a meeting about something Why Don't We related and I secretly wished the boys wouldn't be there but who knows what was going to happen.
"Hi. I'm Samantha Redfield." I spoke into the intercom as I arrived at the gate.
The gate opened and I thanked whoever opened it. As I walked inside the building, I was greeted by a girl sitting at a desk. She had COVID supplies and a clipboard with her.
I introduced myself to her and she gave me a face mask, made me use hand sanitiser and sign the sheet attached to the clipboard. I noticed all five Why Don't We members names on it and my stomach flipped. This was happening. My life was about to change forever and my career was about to begin.
The girl at the desk gave me instructions on where I needed to be and to be honest, I got lost. I felt like I was walking in circles and didn't realise I was about to run into someone.
"Oh shit." I recognised the voice but when I saw who it belonged to, I was shocked.
"Corbyn? You're.. you've got brown hair?" I gave him a confused look.
Corbyn dyed his hair. He's not a blonde anymore.
"Sam? Whoa. You look amazing. I heard you might be coming today." He said under his black face mask.
"Uh, yeah. I'm supposed to be going to a meeting but I've gotten lost. Any chance you could help me out?" I asked him.
"Yeah, sure. Just go down the hall and go the right there should be like a green room. That's where everyone should be." Corbyn explained.
"Thanks. I like your hair by the way. But I kind of miss Jack Frost." I mentioned and he chuckled.
"Yeah, I miss it too but with the new era, I wanted to change up my look." He shrugged.
"Well, it looks good. I'll see you around?"
"Yeah of course. Here's my number by the way. I changed it about a year ago." He put his number in my phone and we parted ways.
I went down the halls and turned right. There I found a group of people standing around.
"Hi. I hope I'm not late." I said and everyone looked at me.
"No, no. We're just about to start." Someone said.
I nodded and everyone sat down 6 feet apart from each other.
"Hey everyone. I'm David Loeffler, Why Don't We's manager and I'm so glad you guys are here today. You guys are the heart and soul of our next project. We're making a music video that will be coming out on September 29 2020 for the boys new song, Fallin'." David began the meeting.
We talked about filming dates, equipment and more. The meeting went for a few hours and it was around lunch time when it finished. As everyone was socially distancing and mingling with one another, the boys entered the room.
"Hey everyone! This is the band if you haven't met them. I was actually surprised when they said they made a song all by themselves that they wanted to release." David announced and I looked away from them.
The boys introduced themselves and laughed at what David had said.
"It was Daniel who thought of the song." Jonah mentioned and my stomach tensed.
"Uh, yeah. It just came to me and we had to work on it right away." I heard Daniel say.
"Well, we're gonna play the song for everyone right now and everyone here gets a copy of the song to memorise before the music video!" David shouted and everyone in the room cheered, everyone except for me.
I was sitting by myself in the corner of the room not talking to anyone. I wanted to get out of the room and go home, or at least call Christina. So that's what I did. No, I didn't go home but I did secretly step out of the room to call Christina.
"Dude! What do I do?! I'm sure Corbyn already told Daniel I was here. Plus, he might've seen me." I rambled.
"Sam. It's gonna be okay. You're gonna go back in there and talk to Daniel. If you don't rip off the band-aid now, then it's gonna be awkward for who knows how long." She explained.
"Alright." I sighed. "I'll text you how it goes. Bye." And with that I hung up.
I walked back into the room and surprisingly nobody noticed my presence. As I was about to approach Daniel, David announced they were about to play the song.
"I'm so excited for more people to hear it!" Zach said.
The drums started and everyone went silent. We all wanted to hear the first Why Don't We song of 2020.
"Caught in the moment, not even thinkin' twice. Everything's frozen, nothing but you and I." As Jonah sang over the speakers I couldn't help but look at Daniel.
The lyrics were playing out in real life. Daniel looked back at me and nothing else mattered right now. I smiled at him and he smiled back. I got chills as Daniel's voice echoed over the speakers and listened to the lyrics.
"CORBYN!!" Somebody yelled and Corbyn grinned. He was proud of his verse.
My mouth went wide as the song continued. This song was insane and I couldn't wait for the other songs the boys had worked on.
Daniel walked over to me, he didn't look anywhere else and as the song finished, everyone cheered. The boys received claps, nods and thank you's.
"Alright! We will meet again next week to start preparing for the music video!" David announced and everyone in the room slowly cleared out.
"We'd better go." I saw Corbyn pull his bandmates out of the room to let Daniel and I have a moment alone together.
"Do we hug or what?" I asked Daniel and he chuckled.
"I think we'll be okay if we hug." He said and wrapped his arms around me.
I missed him and his hugs. Out of nowhere, I started crying.
"Hey, it's okay. I'm very surprised to see you, Sammy." He wiped away my tears but that didn't help.
"I have like a million things to say to you but at the same time, I have no words." I told him and he laughed.
"Come and sit. We'll talk about it now." Daniel suggested and we sat on a red couch as we caught up on everything in the past few years.
