Standing in front of the school, Qiao Lan felt a little silly.

It was time to go home, but she had no idea where Qiao Lan’s home was in the book.

After thinking about it for a long time, she remembered that Qiao Lan’s parents opened a small restaurant in front of the school. The conditions of Qiao Lan’s house were not very good. The storefront of this small restaurant should not be very large, and the passenger flow must also be average.

Qiao Lan walked to the opposite side of the school and ruled out a few large stores since the business there was very hot. After looking for a few more minutes she found the small restaurant that Qiao Lan’s parents had.

It really was a “small” restaurant. The four tables inside took up most of the space. The restaurant had dim lighting, and when one entered they were assaulted by the strong smell of food that had too much MSG.

As soon as Qiao Lan arrived at the door, a little white fat man (1) came up from behind her, shoving Qiao Lan aside without hesitation, “Why are you standing at the door, are you doing an exhibition?” After he finished talking, he walked in.

Qiao Lan frowned and stared at the back of the little fat man’s head for a long time before following him in.

The restaurant served home-cooked dishes, and students usually ordered one rice and two side dishes, just like in the cafeteria. Since school had just finished, there are many students in the small shop.

Father Qiao is responsible for cooking and Mother Qiao is responsible for serving the students. Qiao Lan followed Qiao Yuan into the back kitchen. Father Qiao, who was cooking, saw his baby son’s plump face and smiled widely, “Yuan’er is home.”

He asked his son a few questions about his day before finally noticing Qiao Lan. Looking at her pale and malnourished face his smile disappeared immediately.

“Why are you standing there? There are so many people in the restaurant and you’re still not helping?! Are your two eyes only useful for glaring at me?”

Qiao Lan glanced back. At this moment, there were many students in the restaurant. She stayed silent for a few seconds before heading out. Putting down her school bag she went out to help mother Qiao serve dishes.

Qiao Lan didn’t mind this kind of work. In her previous life, she had done all kinds of jobs to collect tuition fees for school.

She brought out the finished dishes, and then took back the plates after the customer finished eating. When she entered the kitchen again she saw Father Qiao quickly fry three dishes and put them in front of Qiao Yuan.

Two meat dishes and one vegetable, the dishes are clean, and compared to the oily and greasy dishes sold to students it was obvious they were a much higher quality.

Qiao Lan used her money to buy lollipops for her classmates every day. She doesn’t eat much and was painfully skinny. Looking at the meal she felt her stomach rumble in hunger. Putting down the plates she started to wash her hands in order to eat. Father Qiao saw her actions and looked at her strangely.

“Why are you washing your hands when you should be working? Go help your mother out with the checkout,” He turned around towards his son, his eyes full of affection, “Son take your time to eat, father cooked it especially for you.”
