Mother Qiao, though irritated and aggrieved internally, had wanted to step out of the kitchen door but then she heard Granny Qiao’s complimenting Qiao Lu, and took it back.

After finally waiting for the Second Aunt Qiao’s family to leave, Mother Qiao finally walked out to clean up the table.  She then saw Qiao Lan who was sitting silently on one side, and a rush of anger filled her.

Thinking about it carefully, she and Old Lady Qiao only quarreled because Qiao Lan had an extra bite of rice. If Qiao Lan’s grades were not so bad, she would not be looked down upon by Old Lady Qiao in front of Second Aunt Qiao.

She was in the same grade at the same school as Qiao Lu, yet the latter was able to be in the top ten in her class. Qiao Lan was in the bottom ten in her class. She remembered that Old Lady Qiao and Father Qiao had asked Qiao Lan not to go to school and instead go to the store to help.

She had stopped them.

Now, she was beginning to regret it.

After cursing herself for a long time, she ran into Qiao Lan’s room and Qiao Lan was reading a book.

“Only now do you know how to read. Why didn’t you do it earlier? Now you’re pretending to read? Why can’t you learn from Qiao Lu…”

Before she finished speaking, Old Lady Qiao walked out from the side, “Women don’t need to study, nor can they study well. Qiao Lu is a good student because she has a mother who can teach her.”

Mother Qiao was confused and almost fainted from anger.

Old Lady Qiao hadn’t minced her words at all.

The reason why Old Lady Qiao had always looked down upon her, was not only because she could not have a son but also for another reason.

Mother Qiao is a migrant girl from the country. She has no education and no money at home. She met Father Qiao father who was also poor and uneducated. The two finally met and got married. Old Lady Qiao had never looked down upon Mother Qiao.

But Aunt Qiao is different.

Second Uncle Qiao was the only one who was admitted to college in the Qiao family. Second Aunt Qiao’s parents were also city residents, so her family conditions were superior. Second Aunt Qiao’s work was also much better than that of Qiao’s mother, she was a teacher.

In the words of Old Lady Qiao, Second Aunt Qiao is a cadre.

Old Lady Qiao had found the sore spot of Mother Qiao, and she became even more proud as she talked about it, saying that Mother Qiao was originally different from Second Aunt Qiao, her brain was different, her education level was different, and her children were of course different. So Qiao Lan was naturally not born a scholar. Qiao Lan won’t be able to learn like Qiao Lu even if you hit her, so don’t scold your daughter, you could only blame yourself for being born inferior.

That night, Old Lady Qiao, Mother Qiao, and Father Qiao continued to quarrel. After the quarrel, Old Lady Qiao successfully separated the relationship between her son and daughter-in-law, and went to bed in a good mood.

She didn’t notice that Qiao Yuan, her good grandson who was usually very active, was a bit too quiet today.

Qiao Lan stuffed two balls of paper in her ears blocking the sound of the quarrel outside, and fell asleep in the midst of the loud shouts. She woke up the next day without thinking of staying at home for a second and went to school.
