The sound of the whistle was one of the few things you needed more time to adjust to. That and the constant run to the water fountain (because gosh did those boys drink). A month has passed ever since you started as Nekoma's manager and it's been a month since you, as your dad would word it, "temporarily retired from modeling". You felt a little bad now that Usagi is all alone at the shoots, but you had to admit, it was definitely nice to breathe in fresh air. No more lights blinding you, no more makeup being smushed onto your face, and no more uncomfortable itches from the clothes your stylists would give you. Now your weekend routine would consist of waking up, getting changed into the comfortable gym uniform they provided for managers, and heading to the school.

Much more peaceful and no uncomfortable itches. The best part was that you had time to hang out with your friends if you wanted to. A sigh of satisfaction escaped from you as you sat quietly in the train cart. Not many people were up this early on weekends so it wasn't too packed, just the few people running out to do errands. It felt weird not seeing Kuroo and Kenma this morning, but you figured they woke up earlier than you and decided to head to Nekoma early. Soon, your phone vibrates inside of your pocket and part of you already knew who it was due to the several vibrations that came after it. Your suspicions were confirmed when you saw the contact name and you couldn't help but let out a soft giggle. Excitement had filled you at whatever she had to say to you. Quickly you unlocked your phone and opened the message.

You smiled at your phone at the thought of receiving a gift, but that soon changed when you realized the Nanami was going to give you a gift

You smiled at your phone at the thought of receiving a gift, but that soon changed when you realized the Nanami was going to give you a gift. Now, it wouldn't seem too alarming since it's Nanami, but it's Nanami. The girl that tried to set you up with someone on your first day of being the new girl. The girl who you absolutely refuse to have on speaker because you have no idea what she's going to say. Your poor dad would have a heart attack if he heard the amount of things she's talked about. One thing for sure is that Nanami and Usagi would get along very well. Maybe you'll get them to meet one day.

With a final sigh, you put your phone back into your pocket and prayed that whatever she had for you wouldn't put you in an early cardiac arrest.

It was barely 8:30am when the Nekoma boys were starting up a ruckus. Was Yamamoto being a menace to Yaku? He definitely was, and nothing was stopping him from being loud this morning. Not to mention, Yaku himself counter backing his energy (however, much more angrier than what he should be). Meanwhile, Kuroo was helping Lev with school work as he has to make up a test after practice. As much as Lev hated physics, he had to admit that his egghead of a captain really helped him put his mind to ease.

In general, most of the team was doing their own thing or warming up before practice. Coach Naoi was out, so the boys expected it to be only Nekomata and you. It was a short time that you've been manager, but you've been such a great help. To be frank, Nekomata wishes he would have gotten a manager sooner, because even he has to admit that these boys are quite rowdy. Nekomata knows that he's old, but managing his volleyball team makes him feel as if he's getting a few years off of his lifespan.

"There was that one girl...," Nekomata mumbles to himself. He was very familiar with Sasaki, but he also knew that there were too many girls like her and only came to for the boys. There's nothing wrong with a little crush or if one of the boys gets into a relationship, but the people that would beg him to be manager didn't even make an effort to understand not even the basics of volleyball. You weren't different from the rest per say, heck you were still trying to grasp the basics of the sport, but you really surprised both him and Naoi when you were genuine with your answer. You make an effort to understand, that's what set you apart.

Speaking of which, Nekomata couldn't help the fatherly smile that spread across his face when he saw you walk through the doors of the gymnasium. You were sweating a bit, probably because you decided to run a little as to not waste anymore time. You were five minutes early before anything happened. Returning the smile that Nekomata threw at you, you raised your palm up to give him a high-five, a greeting that you two have been doing since you became the team's manager.

"(Y/N)! Glad you could make it."

You let out a small puff. Your cheeks felt hot, but you were just grateful that you weren't sweating buckets.

"Where else would I be?"

"Modeling, maybe?" said Shibayama as he sheepishly made his way towards both you and the coach. A small blush was forming on his face, but considering that it's a little hot in the gym and some of the boys were warming up, you didn't question it.

"What's up Shibayama? Feeling okay?" You tried to go for a more casual tone today. Since you'd be with these guys up until graduation, you figured that you might as well get comfortable. In response to your question, the raven haired boy only scratched his head before nodding a yes.

"Yeah, thanks for asking. I was just wondering how the teams are going to get divided. Do we play rock, paper, scissors, or what?"

A small grin appeared on your face. You definitely had something in mind. Grabbing both of Shibayama's hands your looked at him in the eyes.

"It's a surprise."

————

Indeed was it a surprise.

Kenma was curious.

Lev was excited.

Yaku was confused.

Almost all of the boys gave mixed reactions when they saw the was you were going to divide the teams.

"You want us to draw sticks?"

You frowned a bit at Kuroo because for someone as smart as him, it should be very obvious that yes, you were indeed suggesting them to pick a stick.

"No Kuroo, I want you to use these as toothpicks...," you said with a small huff. "The point of these sticks is to put you in completely random teams. Your adaptation to other teams is astounding; however, it's important that we be able to adapt to others on our team." The boys hummed in understanding.

From a distance, Nekomata watched as you explained everything that you had told him previously. He wore a small smile on his face as he continued to listen to you explain your process with the boys.

heey long time no see! i apologize for the extremely late update (i was supposed to last week), but i'm currently in school and i just want to let you all know that i won't be updating as frequently as i would like. i felt like this chapter was a little boring, but i wanted to try something different with my writing style.

i also finally updated my phone to ios 14 (14.1 to be exact) so if i do customize my phone i'll be glad to show y'all. i will also be updating the current covers, but i don't know what to do yet :))

so much has happened in the kpop community (chanyeol, mnet once again robbing artists, changbin getting eliminated from smtm (noo), nct, red velvet, sm new girl group, and more). however a few good things to keep us positive are this month's comebacks (as well as the following month) and ateez's black cat nero performance video (kings of halloween). warning if you're planning to watch ateez's black cat performance video, be mindful of the flashing lights and rapid camera movements!

stream blue hour and i can't stop me for clear skin :))

stay safe loves <3
