chapter nineteen

A few hours later, some of the guys were testing new skills with Nekomata while you stood at the sidelines writing down a few notes from previous practice games. Nekomata had instructed you to note down certain things that catch your eye and to report them to him after. You were also informed about next week's game and at first you were confused because according to what you understood, there wouldn't be any official volleyball games until later into the year; and it didn't help that Kuroo was being the ever sly bastard (you would never tell him that head on, but as your dad would say, "Never say never!"). It annoyed you how he wouldn't tell you what type of game it was, so in the end you opted to ask the rest of the team as it seemed that the captain wanted nothing more than to tease you.

"A practice match." It was quite simple and it didn't really take a genius to put two and two together. Another school would be coming here to play against you guys. You thanked Nobuyuki before continuing with your notes. From the corner of your eye, Kuroo had stared at you. In return, you stuck your tongue out as if to say, "I got the information! Take that!"

He only shook his head at your childish demeanor before sending you a charming smile.

You were definitely starting to feel more comfortable with the boys and for once you appreciated actually going out of your comfort zone. You felt your phone vibrate in the mist of your thoughts and you pulled it out to see Nanami's name flash across the screen.

You immediately replied no and waited for her to respond. A few seconds later, the typing bubble pops up and almost instantly a message right after it. She sure did text fast.

Look up.

Your eyes moved from your screen to the view in front of you and if it wasn't for Lev, you probably would've dropped the clipboard on the floor.

There stood the entire team, including Coach Nekomata, with a small cake.

"We never gave you an offical welcome to the team, so consider this as one. Also we realized that we gave you a plain uniform, so here, a new team jacket that's been tweaked to fit you and your position here." Inuoka rushed towards you to give you the team jacket. It was the same color as the boy's, but the only difference is that the back of it had the word "Manager" in cursive with a cute little cat below it. You felt tears swell up. Taking a deep breathe, you bowed down towards the entire team.

"I'll do my very best!"

The following week was a bit hectic; although your welcoming gifts were nice, everyone knew that the upcoming practice match was more important.

The school that Nekoma would be playing against is Fukurodani, and from online research, they had some serious players. You couldn't whip the boys into shape as that was the coach's job, but you can provide support and that's what you were intending to do.

"You seem focused." You looked up from the math problems you were working on to see Kenma staring intensely at you. He had a habit of doing that and you just realized last week that you probably need more time to get used to his stare. You chuckled at his comment before continuing with your problems.

"I mean yeah, it is math."

Kenma furrowed his brows at your response before letting out a sigh. He wasn't talking about the worksheet. Quite beyond that actually.

"I mean the game. You've been taking a lot of notes." Once again you looked up at him, only to see his eyes trail to your open bag. You could obviously see the small post its sticking out of the volleyball guide that Nekomata had gotten for you. There was also the clipboard that you were given and if you squinted hard enough, you could see all of the observation notes that you wrote. You blushed in embassament before letting out a small chuckle as if to ease yourself.

"Yeah, it's my first time doing anything like this, so I want to be as helpful as possible." Your eyes skimmed towards Kenma's worksheet before pointing out at one of the problems. "You got this one wrong."

Kenma let out a surprised sound and muttered a small thanks. Once he corrected it, he continued back to his small talk with you.

"I think you'll be okay. You've still got a long way."

"Thanks." Kenma nodded before pointing at one of the problems on your worksheet. This time it was you who let out a surprised sound and immediately you thanked the pudding haired boy before correcting it.

After that, the rest of the week had gone by smoothly and before you knew it, it was the day of the practice match against Fukurodani. You weren't as nervous as you were now and part of you wished you had freaked out at the beginning of the week rather than now. You winced in pain when you felt two large hands smack against your shoulders and shake you. You looked up to see Kuroo, but instead of the usual lazy grin, he was more serious. With furrowed eyebrows, he leaned down to look at you on the same level.

"Don't you dare get nervous on us (L/N)-chan, I still need to show you off to that loud owl."

"Loud...owl?" However, before Kuroo could answer you, his eyes had averted towards the gymnasium door and a loud voice had resounded throughout the whole place.

"Hey, hey, hey!" Kuroo had once again leaned down to your height and pointed at the energetic boy.

"That loud owl..."

wow i updated. first and foremost, stream got7's comeback because i would literally sell my soul for youngjae. also stream the other comebacks/debuts (black mamba) that we've had.

now for some life updates: i got accepted into several colleges :)) honestly i can't believe it but hey, if i, someone with an average gpa and average grades, can get accepted into 6 schools, so can you! but, to be honest i might just do two years of community college and then transfer because for your first two years you're required to take general courses and i don't feel like spending $40,000+ per year just to take an english class. college is a scam.

any who, as i've said before, i'll try to update as much as possible, but please keep in mind that i'm focusing on school at the moment and it's very important to me, so i apologize if chapters become smaller in size/wording or if i update once or twice a month.
