You found it funny how after your first encounter with some of the players Fukkurodani, it was going to be your last before you'd have to see them again. Turns out, Bokuto was a lot more resilient with letting you go after your first meeting. Unbeknownst to you, he literally begged Kuroo for your number claiming that "you had to be some kind of lucky charm". Apparently this was the hardest Bokuto had ever played and according to Bokuto's logic, you were the main cause of it.  Of course, Kuroo wasn't going to give him your number right away. He knew how shy you get, heck, the first week of being their manager, you couldn't even look at the team in the eye. It amazed Kuroo how different model you was to manager you, but he guesses that manager you was the real you, so he was thankful that you weren't trying to put up an act. So the following week in school, Kuroo was going to ask you if  it was okay for him to give Bokuto your number. He didn't tell you why (as it also sounded weird to him), and instead he fibbed and told you it was because Bokuto wanted to befriend you (which wasn't a lie too).

Of course you hesitated, Kuroo expected that.

"I don't know Tetsuro, don't you think he would have asked me personally if he wanted to be friends?"

"You have a point (Y/N)," he paused for a second before sending a grin your way. "But, wouldn't you get flustered and start acting all shy if he had?" You glared at Kuroo because he wasn't wrong. He chuckled before patting your head.

"You don't have to (Y/N)-chan, I just asking you so I can relay the final message to him."

Why must you overthink things, you had no clue. But it wouldn't hurt you to broden your friendships, so by the end of that school day, you gave Kuroo the okay. You expected him to text you the same way Nanami or Tsubaki did. You expected to get the most random out of the blue messages like if the sky was really blue or if a butt was one or two.

Thirty-six messages.

Bokuto Kotaro had sent you thirty-six text messages within the time span of five minutes. And this was only the beginning. Throughout the whole week, Bokuto had sent you texts upon texts. You tried to respond back, but your own messages would be drowned out or he would completely changed the topic. It came to the point were you silenced your phone for good because the only sound you've been hearing was ding ding ding. The most notifications that you've gotten was from your social media when you comment under someone's post or post something.

When the next volleyball practice rolled around, you stomped into the gymnasium, phone in hand, and pleaded to Kuroo. He was startled with the way you came up to him and shoved your phone at his face. He took your phone and looked at what you had displayed on your screen.

"Why didn't you tell me this is what I'd be signing up for?! Make him stop, please!"

Kuroo sighed before taking out his own phone to text the owl like captain. "I'm sorry (Y/N), I didn't think he'd be so pushy like this."

"No it's fine. I know he wanted to become friends, but I didn't think it was going to be like this... "

In the next few days, the messages have died down and after that, nothing on Bokuto's end. You felt bad that you killed his energy and the guilt was eating up at you. It was the end of the day and you were walking towards the gymnasium as there was practice.

Sometimes you saw fan girls. They were all pretty nice most of the time, it was just the few of them that sent glares towards your direction, but nothing too serious. This was one of those moments you saw them and as you were about to ask for them to excuse you, a loud laugh resonated from behind you.

Did it scare you? Most definitely. Not even Kuroo's ugly laugh could scare you like that. You turned around to see the person who scared you, only to see Bokuto.

"Bokuto? What are you doing here-!"

"(Y/N)! I'M SO SORRY FOR MAKING YOU FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE!"

His voice boomed as he bowed towards you at a perfect ninety degree angle. You were startled at his booming voice and the abruptness of his actions, but you couldn't help the feeling of flattery that bloomed in your chest. He was respecting your boundaries as you weren't exactly the most extroverted person out there. Were you swooning? Possibly, but you weren't going to let anyone know about that to save face. With a gentle pat on his shoulder, you stood Bokuto up straight before giving him a small smile.

"You're okay Bokuto-senpai. I think I should be the one to apologize for telling you directly myself."

He looked like he was going to burst out at any given moment and if it wasn't for Akashi (who was silently waiting at the sidelines while simultaneously telling him to keep it together), he probably would have.

Inside the gym, it was Kuroo who had suggested to Bokuto to talk things out, which was going quite well from where he was watching. However, it really stunned Kuroo at the way you were talking so casually with Bokuto. It took you a while to even look at him in the eye, and yet you were calmly talking to Fukurodani's Captain (who wasn't calm unless it was something serious) with no hesitation. Was there a difference between the two? Did Kuroo seem more intimidating? Whatever it was, he didn't know why his chest felt weird when he saw you giggle at something Bokuto had said.

'I'll ask him about the joke later, then maybe she'll laugh like that too.'

-

Bokuto and Akashi left after a while, leaving you feeling a lot better about the misunderstanding. It was two hours into practice when Coach Nekomata dropped a rather heavy packet onto your lap. You looked up at him quizzically before reading the front of the packet.

THE DUMPSTER BATTLE - NEKOMA VS. KARASUNO

The title was rather odd and it almost sounded like it came from one of those anime shows your nephews watch. You opened the packet to find old records of former volleyball games. The scores varied, but the leading outcome was always the same,

"Nekoma won."

Coach Nekomata sat down beside you as you studied each play.

"(Y/N)."

You hummed in acknowledgement, letting the old man know that you were listening.

"A week from now, we'll be heading to Miyagi."

----------

Hi guys, sorry for the inactivity and slow update, but I did it! I've been struggling with my mental health for a while now and school has gotten busier as decision day is coming up (aka choosing a college and unfortunately my college advisor is not being very caring towards some of our decisions). I know I say I'll try to update faster but I don't want to make it seem like I'm making empty promises. That's not to say I'll quit writing this story, but the updates are going to be at the very slow pace that they're going now (sorry!). So for now, until the next update!

Remember to take care, thank you loves <3
