This was the original plan for the ending:

You'll be disappointed I swear, It's just a summary of my concept for the ending;
But atleast you'll know the ending to the story right?
After Douma threatened Giyuu and Shinobu, they both went to her house to let her rest for a bit,
a few hours after that there was an explosion at the place where the student council was
Most of them were injured and one of them died, if you're wondering who..
Sanemi Died :"D
He died while saving Kanae from the bomb Douma planted (In other words Kanae was the nearest to the bomb)
While saving the her he then regains his memories from his past life which made him want to save her even more because he wasn't able to do so in his past life.
After that Douma then breaks into the Kocho household as injures both Giyuu and Shinobu angrily because he realized that he doesn't have a chance with Shinobu.
They were both on the verge of death and wanted to give up already. But then suddenly gains back their memories from their past lives (Just like sanemi)
And then they both try to fight off Douma even in a state like that.
