Despite my lack of sleep last night, having spent most of the hours of darkness and stars in the company of the King of the East, I felt well-rested when I awoke the next morning, tangled in sheets and covers and pillows as I stretched my arms over my head, a small smile tugging at the corners of my lips.
I was about to go back to sleep, my eyes still closed as I enjoyed the warmth of the sunrays that filtered through the windows opposite me, when a voice made me furrow my brows and freeze.
"Looks like someone got a good night's sleep."
I immediately jolted up from my bundle of covers, letting out a cry of pain as my head slammed into something immediately falling back onto the bed as I opened my eyes to see King Wooyoung clutching his head as well, the look in his eyes going from pain to surprise and then to amusement as he took me in.
I wanted to smack that smug look right off his face but then I followed his eyes and looked down at myself as well, my mouth falling open in shock as I stared at the nightgown I was wearing, knowing very well that I hadn't been dressed like this when I fell asleep last night.
"Nari," I growled, scrambling to cover up all of the skin that the dress failed to do, mentally cursing at the smooth white silk and lace, the low neckline, the skirt that barely covered the tops of my thighs, the slit in the side-
"Or Jinae," Wooyoung said, the hint of a smile still present on his handsome features as he took a step back, though he kept his eyes trained on me just the same.
But then he stopped, furrowing his brows as I got off the bed, scowling as I decided that I had finally had enough of his tricks and games by now. "White," he breathed, the look in his eyes changing into something that could have resembled annoyance as they fell on my bare legs, the slit in the side of the dress, "Why is it always white?" he growled.
"First of all," I snapped, tumbling out of bed before stalking over to the king, clenching my teeth as I jabbed a finger at his chest before pointing to my face, "My eyes are up here, your highness," I said, the last word barely anything but a hiss as I stood up a little straighter, but he interrupted me before I got the chance to finish the rest of my sentence.
"Oh, but you would have looked so much better in autumn, my dear Yuna," Wooyoung breathed, "Russet, copper, tan, hazel, chocolate. I can already imagine-"
"Don't," I said, snapping my fingers in front of the king's eyes to get his attention as they began to drift downward again, "Why are you even here?"
"Well, I was waiting for you in the training room but you never showed up," The King of Autumn huffed, looking almost disappointed as his hazel eyes once again locked with mine though the familiar mischievous expression quickly replaced it again, "So I went looking for you."
"And, what?" I asked, gesturing from me to the bed as I felt warmth rush to my cheeks, "You just stood there and watched me sleep?"
"Miss Yuna," the king said, taking a step back as his brows furrowed, "I don't believe we know each other well enough for me to even come up with an excuse for that to be the least bit acceptable. I would never-" Wooyoung said., looking increasingly flustered as he began to fumble with his words, "A lady- a woman, I'm-"
"Let me get dressed first," I said, cutting him off as I turned my back to him and made my way over to the closet, the training suit having been discarded on the ground right in front of it, bending down to pick it up before turning to one of the mirrors.
But King Wooyoung was still standing there, looking, mesmerized, as he stared at me. "Creep," I muttered, whipping my head around just as he turned on his feet and made his way back out of my bedroom, his face flushed with soft colours of sunsets and peached as his hazel eyes turned away from me.
