"You're kidding me, right? How are you sleeping right now? You're in a dream!" Korra exclaims in disbelief as the child in front of her blows a snot bubble, snoring. Hearing the shocked voice, Haruka groggily opens her eyes and sits straight back up at the sight of Korra's glare.
"How are you even sleeping right now when you're supposed to be training?"
"Well, sorry," Haruko states sarcastically, "I really don't get how this..." motioning to her meditating position, "is supposed to be training. All we're doing is sitting here, doing nothing. This is so boring. Can't we do actual training, like bending or something?"
Korra sighs, "This is training. Before you even start bending, you need to learn how to channel Chi."
Haruka scowls at Korra in annoyance, "I don't know how to do it! How do you expect me to do this from the explanation you gave me?" She recalls Korra's attempt of explaining how to channel Chi, but she used words like 'feeling' and 'instinct'.
Korra holds her chin in between her thumb and finger as she starts to think of what to do to help Haruka understand the process more, when she's hit with an idea.
"I think I know someone who can help you. Like you said yourself, I'm not very good at explaining," Korra gives a sheepish shrug before looking at the muddled Haruka.
"Who?" Korra smirks and her blue figure wisps away, leaving a mist of where she was. Haruka starts to become anxious, unaware of Korra's plan.
"Korra? Where did you go?" Another blue figure soon replaces where Korra was originally. It's a girl younger than Korra, who looks like she's in her late twenties. She has forest green eyes and short black hair with a silver clip to hold her fringe back on the right side.
She wears green clothing, which she recalls from Korra's teachings, that she must be from the Earth Kingdom. She sends a motherly smile to the little girl and Haruka feels comfort from it.
"I'm Naoki Beifong. I was the Avatar after Korra."
Haruka remembers Korra mentioning 'Beifong' in her teachings. "Beifong? As in Toph Beifong?" Naoki confirms her question.
"She is my great grandmother and she helped Avatar Aang defeat Lord Ozai. Korra was friends with my parents and my father didn't have a family name, so my siblings and I took on the Beifong name."
Haruka slowly nods her head in understanding, "so, you're here to help with my Chi?"
"Mhm, I'll help you understand it better and when you start to understand it, you can start bending." Haruka's eyes turns glassy as she feels a sudden determination to pass this first obstacle.
"So first you must understand what Chi is. Chi is the life energy that dwells inside every living being connecting them to each other, to their surroundings and to the universe. Using your own Chi, you'll have the ability to manipulate the elements. In different parts of the body, there are concentrated clusters of Chi which can be referred to as a pool and these pools are connected to each other." Naoki stands up and beckons Haruka to follow her.
They cross the bridge and start walking into the forest, "where are we going?" Naoki smiles at the child, reminding her of her younger siblings that have already passed on.
"We are going somewhere to better help you understand Chi and their pools."
After a few minutes of walking, they stop by some pools filled with moss and a water stream that was flowing into other pools. "These pools represent the concentrated Chi I was talking about. However, life is messy, and things tend to fall into the pools, which the moss represents," she says pointing to the green moss swirling around. "So, what do you think happens after that?"
