I screamed loudly and pulled my hand back and stumbled back into the house. The light quickly came on and I found myself staring into the faces of my family and 2 of my best friends.
I looked around at the decorations-- red and black streamers, balloons, etc. Then it hit me.
"Oh!" I exclaimed. "A surprise party?" I asked in disbelief. How sweet.
"Well, of course," Nancy Wilks, one of my best friends, said with a grin on her face.
I looked around. I saw my parents (my mom had joined them as I had stood there speechless), my siblings, Valorie Andrews (another one of my best friends), and Nancy.
"Where's Brit?" I asked, referring to Britney Younger, the girl who completes our group that we call "The 4."
"She should be here soon," Val answered.
"Cool. Is Jimmy coming?" I asked. James Long, whom we call Jimmy, is another one of my best friends. Not in the same group as The 4, but he's been my best friend ever since I moved into the house next to his.
"I don't think so," my sister Kate piped up.
"It's whatevs," I muttered, kind of upset.
"PRESENTS!" my mom screamed as she carried a red bag over to a table covered in candy, soda, and a cake. I looked closer at the table and smiled at what I saw. There were BVB stickers and tattoos.
"Aw, thanks guys," I mumbled as I picked up the thin packages of tattoos.
"Yeah, those things cost me 20 bucks!" my mom explained.
My eyes bulged. "Seriously?"
"Well, it said 13... but I didn't realize that was in euros until too late," she admitted. "It turns out that 13 euros equals about 21 dollars."
We all busted out laughing at her silly mistake as I clutched the tattoos to my chest. If you can't tell, BVB is my favorite band.
"Mine first!" Nancy screamed as she shoved a huge homemade card and a present in my face.
I giggled as I read the card that consisted of funny nicknames, inside jokes, and the crazy memorable things we'd done. Then I opened the bag to find it filled with starbursts, reeses peanut butter cups, and carmex.
"You know me so well," I smiled thankfully at her. "Thanks, so much. I love you Nancy," I muttered as I hugged her.
"No problemo. Now, it's Val's turn!" she shouted as she grabbed Val's present off the table and handed it to me.
Her present also consisted of a gigantic homemade card and a bag full of Dove chocolate and some more carmex.
"You guys are the best," I giggled as I group hugged them. "I love you guys."
"We love you, too!" they shouted in unison, then they looked at eachother and laughed. Everyone else joined in.
"Okay, Carolyn, time to open this oneeee!" Anna said sneakily as she handed me the red bag mom had set on the table.
I slowly opened the bag. My heart pounded and I wasn't sure why. I just had a feeling this was going to be big. I was turning 18, ya know.
I pulled out the stack of papers that were nestled in the red bag. I stared at the papers, not sure what they were. They seemed to have concert dates, taking most of the space on the paper up, but mostly the right side. I noticed some bands I'd heard of before. My brows knit in confusion and frustration. I had no clue what these were.
"YOU GOT ME SOMETHING TO READ?" I shouted as I frantically looked over the papers over and over again.
"Carolyn, look over here," Nancy said as she pointed to the upper left side and suppressed a laugh. The upper left side had a box with smaller font in it, probably why I hadn't thought to look there.
"Oh my..." I mumbled in disbelief as I read what was in the box. "Black Veil Brides... February 19... Louisville, Kentucky... BLACK VEIL BRIDES TICKETS?!" I exclaimed. My heart thudded happily in my chest but I was silently praying (although I don't believe in God) that this wasn't a dream. It felt like a dream. I was so scared that I'd wake up any second and look down at my hands that didn't contain Black Veil Brides tickets. 6 tickets to be exact. "6 of them... wow." I just stared, disbelieving, at the precious tickets that I held in my hands. Then I ran to my dad and hugged him, next I hugged my mother tightly. "Thank you guys!" I shouted as I put the tickets back in the red bag to put somewhere safe.
"It was your dad's idea," my mom explained. I grinned at my dad.
"I got 6. You, your mom and I, and the 4 are going," he explained.
I turned to the girls. "Guys. We gotta get Brit over here and tell her."
"On it," Nancy said as she pulled out her phone.
"Hey, do you guys wanna go to the mall? I want to get the new Motionless cd..." I asked.
"Yeah!" Val and Nancy exclaimed in unison.
"Okay, let me ask."
After talking my mother into taking us to the mall, I texted Brit and told her that we would pick her up on the way to the mall. We all ran to the van and jumped inside after I had grabbed my wallet and made myself look presentable. We got to Brit's house quickly and she climbed into the van and we were on our way to the mall. More specifically, Hot Topic.
As we pulled up to the mall, we all raced inside to Hot Topic. The album had just come out a few days ago, so I was afraid that they would be out. Sure enough, when we got to the section where the albums were kept, there were none under "Motionless In White." I sighed.
"Great. I knew they wouldn't have any," I muttered.
"What are you guys looking for?" I heard from behind me, so I turned to see one of the employees looking at us with a smile on his face.
"The new Motionless in White album," I said. "Are you guys out?"
"Well, it looks like it... but let me go check in the back," he smiled as he walked to the storage. I jumped up and down with happiness as he came back out with two albums in his hand. "We have two left," he grinned as he handed one copy to me and put the other on the shelf.
"Thank you so much!" I said as I clutched the album to my chest.
"No problem. If you guys need any more help, you know where to find me," he said as he walked over to the Adventure Time stuff.
I smiled. "Gosh, I love it here," I sighed as I looked around. I fit in here. Except for the One Direction, Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, and Lil' Wayne part, which made me grimace every time I saw a piece of their merchandise. No, they aren't cool enough to get "merch" they get "merchandise."
"We aren't leaving this store, are we?" Brit asked with a laugh. I just grinned and shook my head.
We walked around the store about 4 times. I had a BVB shirt (to add to my collection. It was now up to...5 shirts, I believe) and a PTV shirt to go along with my Motionless In White album. We all walked up to the check out counter.
"Is this all for ya?" the lady asked with a smile on her pretty face.
"Yup!" I said as I smiled at her. After paying, we walked out of Hot Topic.
"Okay, I'm ready to leave," I said as we started walking around the mall.
"Me, too," everyone said in unison. After we giggled for a bit, I called my mom and told her that we were ready for her to come pick us up. See, I have a car, but the oil needed to be changed and my dad kept forgetting to do it, so I was having my mom drive me around lately.
She got there a few minutes later. We all piled into the van and we were on our way home. I smiled as I looked at the things I had bought and as I thought about the BVB tickets.
This had definitely been the best birthday ever.
