With the humans gone, Cassimeer quickly transports the tavern through the gate back to the Dark Realm, sealing away any chance for this creature to come into the human world. Him joining us would only cause trouble for my business. Fox spirits are troublesome beings to every kind. We were lucky there were only two in existence.
"How long until he breaks through?" I ask Cass as we stare at the door, with arms crossed, while our unwanted guest pounds at the thick wood rattling the hinges loose.
"Knowing him, not long. He is after all a pureblooded bastard," Cass annoyingly spits out.
It brings me to wonder what is so urgent that he needed to force his way in. He could have easily requested to enter calmly instead of so aggressively.
"Should we just let him in?" Cass asks the question I ask myself.
Should we? Nah, fuck that.
"No, he needs to know his place. He is unwelcome here."
"Well isn't that just rude," a voice comes from behind where we stand. "And here I thought we were friends."
"I told you it wouldn't be long," Cass whispers, using his thumb to point indicating he's behind us.
The look on my face shows repugnance as I stare at Cass in disbelief. "Clearly," I sneer.
Turning, I give my award winning smile to Dai.
"Welcome! Old friend," I say, finding him perched up on the bar counter with a perfectly made old fashion drink in his hand.
Behind him, I can see a very confused Lance who shrugs his shoulders. "He insisted," Lance mumbles before disappearing into the kitchen.
Dai smirks holding his drink out as if he were making a toast before he chugs it down. He tosses the glass cup behind him, it shattering against the wall.
"Perfect," I mutter to myself already feeling a headache coming.
"So, you boys want to tell me why I am never invited to the big new year celebration?" Dai hops off the counter his long black robe trailing behind him.
"Strict orders to keep you nice and tucked in," I remind him for the millionth time.
Dai chuckles. "He can't keep me here forever," he smiles while casually making himself comfortable in one of our booths. He lays his head back, shutting his red eyes as if he were going to fall asleep right there.
Cass and myself stand there quietly with our eyes fixated on him. Prepared for anything he is about to attempt.
"You know why I despise you damn Gatekeepers so much?" Dai calmly speaks, referring to me and the other four gatekeepers who control the amount of traveling from the dark realm to the human world.
"Please, enlighten me," I say, my sarcastic tone not appreciated as Dai's eyes snap open to glare at me.
His eyes darken, turning black with anger. "Because somehow you fools can bind me here and it drives me insane not knowing how you can possibly block out my power!" He snaps.
