People seldom change. Only their masks do. It is only our perception of them and the perception they have of themselves that actually change.

- - ┈┈∘┈˃̶༒˂̶┈∘┈┈ - -"wait- come again, whom are you working on this project with?!!"
seungmin inquires in shock, almost in a demanding tone as if challenging jeongin to repeat what he just said.
"I said I'm working with hyunjin. What's so hard to believe about that?" the cute ravenette asks seungmin who almost falls for the puppy eyes that seemed to shine brighter than the stars themselves.
"Oh nothing." Seungmin said rather calmly but jeongin quickly took that thought back when he saw him open his mouth again. "Absolutely nothing except the fact that you literally have the shadiest guy in our whole school helping you willingly! And it honestly would've been fine if it was jisung because that squirrel can literally sabotage anyone into anything but you? you can't even ask someone to return you your pencil back."
jisung who was walking quietly head in his phone and music blasting into one of his ears looked up, confused. "did you say my name?"
no one answered his question and instead jeongin sighed. seungmin rolled his eyes like the virgo he is and looked at his phone out of habit.
"I don't understand." jeongin muttered, but both of his friends still heard him.
"what?" they asked in unison.
"why are you guys so against hyunjin? he literally just transferred here what did he ever do to you?"
the two older boys looked at each other with a face that read 'oh so he doesn't know yet', which seemed to explain a lot to them.
this time it was jisung who spoke up. "lets just say that the first few days here were...eventful."
"he was being rude to everyone since day one." seungmin cut in quickly. not really wanting to discuss about hyunjin anymore, already feeling a headache coming up.
but jisung didn't take the hint as he continued on with the gossip. "i heard he rejected this one girl for no reason and when she tried to come closer he pushed her off so hard she fell."
the younger shook his head. "guys, hyunjin isn't violent-" he attempted to protect the ravenette but got rudely ignored.
"i also heard how he cussed some of our juniors off so bad one of them ended up crying."
"but he doesn't cuss-" he tried again.
"he also broke into the principles office-"
"ok jisung we get it." seungmin finally snapped and the older boy laughed nervously as he scratched the back of his neck. jeongin could only sigh at their behavior.
the bell rang and the three of them hurried to their classes.
"why are we the only ones who keep on getting punishments?" jisung groaned as he carried a stack of at least 7 large history books.
"jisung..." jeongin quietly mumbled. the squirrel looked as his friend and his eyes turn sympathetic immediately as he sees the struggle. "i need to pee."
jisung quietly snorts. "go ahead then. i will head to class first." he said and stormed away.
jeongin watched him disappear behind the corner with his mouth agape. a squirrel just ditched me and i'm sad about it...unbelievable.
jeongin quickly walked to the nearest bathroom -which was a three minute walk away- and let the books fall on the counter with a harsh slam. he could swear his fingers were about to fall off but he needed to finish his business first.
after a load of cussing in his mind because the big stall was taken, he finally came out with a sigh of relief that was soon replaced with a surprised pikachu face.
"hyunjin?!"
"hi angel."
still affected by the nickname jeongins ears turned pink as he distracted himself by washing his hands. "hello." he quietly muttered.
hyunjin smiled softly as he watched the boy with affectionate eyes. he scanned through the 8 history books that were sitting on the counter. "are these yours?" he asked with his head nodding towards them.
jeongin nodded wordlessly as he carefully wiped his hands.
hyunjin noticed the shaky movements and red hands as he remembering how the small boy struggled to even hold 6 books twice as small as these. "do you need help?"
jeongin looked at hyunjin as if he was his savior. with his eyes lighting up and a smile cracking onto his face revealing his sweet dimples.
"i will take that as a yes." hyunjin chuckled at the sudden change of jeongins mood. seeing the precious smile of his angel empowered him enough to break a mountain if jeongin only asked him to.
he easily picked up all 8 of the books and was ready to leave till jeongin grabbed him by the arm. hyunjin felt warm from the contact but still gave jeongin a questioning glance.
"they are heavy give me a few." hyunjin was about to roll his eyes but knowing that it will only make jeongin sadder he took one of the books and handed it to him. jeongin was ready to open his mouth to argue but hyunjin quickly said:
"take it or leave it."
jeongin took the one book quietly with a pout. "i wanted to help with more than this. it's my punishment to begin with." he muttered under his breath like a grandpa.
smiling at the small, grumpy boy next to him, hyunjin took innies hand into his and placed it in between his hand and the books. their fingers slid between each other almost holding. making jeongin stumble closer to the older boy to the point where their shoulders were touching.
"see, now you're carrying them as well."
jeongin looked lost as he tried to process the warm hand holding his own securely. he felt his breakfast dancing his his stomach and regretted choosing the extra warm sweater he was currently wearing. his gaze fell on his shoes and all he could see was red as his brain started overworking itself.
"angel are you okay? are you sick? you're very red." hyunjin teased. he knew that jeongin was absolutely fine and healthy but very flustered. he liked how pure his angel was. the boy was literally the type to melt even from an ounce of affection.
"oh look! it my class!" the boy quickly said and literally snatched the books out of hyunjins hold. "see you hyung! thank you for the help." he said at last and entered the class.
everyone was staring at him as jeongin walked across the room and put the books on his teachers desk. right next to another stack of books that were probably the ones jisung brought. the teacher smiled sweetly at him and motioned for him to take his seat.
as he walked to his seat he waved hello lightly at everyone he saw and some girls literally 'awed' at him and his still flushed self. jisung gave him a questioning look asking 'why the hell you took so long if you look as red as if you ran a marathon?'
jeongin ignored it and sat his bum on the cold stool.
the teacher started presenting, and jeongin didn't even bother pretending that he was actually paying attention. his head was filled with questions about hyunjin.
on one hand he had his friends (and what also seemed to be the whole school) hating hyunjin for being a dick. on the other- he had the nice, a bit closed off hyunjin who was always there to help him. he was utterly confused to say the least.
which one should he believe?
