I wear a mask so I can write what I feel instead of what I  think I should feel

Jeongin opens the door, ready to complain to Minho who he guessed forgot something again before leaving, but he was met with his mother instead.

"Hi Jeongin."

He was at a loss of words. "Hello."

He steps to the side when the woman motioned for him to move, closing the door behind her. She sits down on the stool near the contertop where she always sits, refusing to go further in.

"I need to talk to you about something.

We will be moving away to the states. Business here isn't progressing the way we planned, and an opportunity opened itself up in the north. Plus it will be good for Haseul to attend school there."

Jeongin listened to the woman cautiously, his face not showing any emotion as he hasn't decided how he felt about this new information yet. Was he angry that she showed up unannounced just to tell him, so empathetically? or happy that the family will finally be so out of reach from him that he won't have to worry about them? or upset that they're taking his sister away to the other side of the earth?

"Thanks for the heads up?"  Jeongin said unsurely. He wasn't grateful by any means, but the awkward silence was getting to him.

"That's not all," the woman continued. "Father wants you to come with us. He grew quite fond of you through Haseuls stories, and decided that this will be a good chance for the family to reunite."

If jeongin didn't know how to feel before, right now his face had the expression of utter shock on his handsome face. His mind nearly exploded at the newly acquired information. "We're departing at the end of the month. The apartment is prepaid, so you can finish the school year and join us during the summer."

Jeongin responded before he could stop himself.  "And what if I don't want to?"

"We will still hold up the end of our deal and support you until you turn 18, which is coming up next February. However after that, you're on your own. Father won't take your rejection well as you might know, and accept it as your way of saying you don't want to associate with the family. He will cut you off completely."

As he listened to his mother, Jeongin reminded himself of the fact that she wasn't the only monster in the family. His father, if anything, was worse. He is a stubborn man, and one who keeps his word. He is quick to make decisions and conclusions, regardless of reason and common sense. His mother was merely a side piece he used to get tasks done.

"Think about it." She said as she stood up to leave. "And please be rational."

When Hyunjin arrived at his destination the sun was almost ready to set. He grabbed his things as he made his way up the metallic stairs towards Jeongins apartment.

"Angel." He knocked on the door. "Hi, it's me, Hyunjin."

When no response came after he knocked again, he tried opening the door which was surprisingly unlocked. He peeked into the apartment, seeing Jeongin sitting on the couch with his laptop on his lap, headphones on his head.

He closed the door loudly, and only then did Jeongin turn his head as he realized that someone has walked in.

"Oh Hyunjin!" He acknowledged the presence of the older, taking off his headphones. "I didn't realize you came. Sorry." He patted the seat on the couch next to him, and the elder made his way to sit next to him.

It was weird, being physically so close to each other after not having proper conversations for weeks. For strange reasons, hyunjin couldn't shake off the feeling that something was wrong. The way Jeongin didn't even spare him a smile upon seeing him, the way he was still so up in the clouds after he literally broke into his apartment. Hyunjin could've been anyone, and the thought of the younger potentially getting hurt made him shiver.

"Hi Jeonginnie." The elder leaned into the youngers side, his head pressing against Jeongins blond one. "I wanted to talk to you."

Jeongin hummed in response, turning off his computer as he was preparing to give Hyunjin his undivided attention. But not before the older was able to sneak a peak at what he was researching, the word 'scholarship' prominent on every search engine.

"So did I."

The two now sat across each other on the couch, thick silence around them making them giggle nervously. Hyunjin decided to speak first, taking Jeongins hands into his.

"I like you."

Jeongin shivered at the words that came out so unexpectedly. It was so anticlimactic it was almost funny, but he couldn't ignore how warm he felt hearing them.

"I like you so much, Jeongin." He signs as he brings his head down to their hands, his forehead pressing against Jeongins knuckles. "So much that the past few weeks of not seeing you have been the hardest I've had in months. I crave to be with you, touch you, listen to your voice. But I realized I know close to nothing about you, and you know barely anything about me. Even though we've spent so much time together." He finishes, looking up at the younger with pleading, hopeful eyes. He felt so vulnerable right now, and never in a million years could he have expected his first confession to happen under such circumstances. But he grew so impatient for Jeongin. He wanted the younger to know how he felt. He was so tired of secrets and silent glances. Now he could only wish the younger was going to return his affection.

Jeongin just stared at the elder, surprised at the sudden confession and his heart beating loudly in his ears. He pulled his hands away, taking Hyunjins and pressing them to cup his cheeks instead. Just like always his slender hands has a slight chill to them which he was grateful for, he they calmed down his burning head.

"I feel the same." He looks at the older. "I like you as well, hyung."

Hyunjin didn't expect the younger to answer him so easily, much less leap across the couch into his arms, pushing him to fall on his back as they hugged each other. The apartment was silent for a few moments, the two basking in each other's comfort. Jeongin appreciated this moment of silence, his heart was finally at peace since his mother's departure. Truth be told, his mind hasn't stopped racing since she came over, and he has spend the past hour researching. Researching jobs, cost of rent, living, school, scholarships. He hasn't made up his mind yet, and he needed all the pieces in order to see one clear picture to make his decision. The older coming was a pleasant surprise that he welcomed.

"I missed you so much hyung. I don't think I can put it into words. I'm so happy to see you."

The elder was taken aback by Jeongin who felt so vulnerable in his arms right now. He felt like the younger was a precious diamond that needs to be protected from the outside world that's trying so hard to break him. For Jeongin, he was more than willing to become the rock that shields this precious diamond.

"I've missed you as well Angel." Hyunjin kisses the top of his head, and they drowse off together, welcoming the tiredness that came with their newfound peace.

As I was finishing revising the chapter I realized it's been a little over three years since my last upload...wow.
Is the Hyunin fandom alive still??? Even back then it wasn't the most popular ship, but in my heart they're canon😩. Their chemistry makes so much sense ????
